I'm sorry to go on and I think you've been fair. Whatever happens, I feel very inspired about Ron Paul has said. He's changed my view of our nation for the better. I have hope even though I may sound cynical. I appreciate that you've been willing to have a civil discussion. Honestly, I've been getting tired of defending Ron Paul for a while now. There are a lot of tough nuts to crack out there and there are other, better ways to spend my energy at this point. I need to work on my nut-cracking skills.
Hey, if Ron Paul inspires you, then good to go. I just hope you can respect the fact that not everyone is going to feel the same way and that, despite all your defenses of the man, you're just not going to sway some people. Not everyone is going to buy into the Ron Paul hype and there are obviously reasons for that. Sadly, I've met many Ron Paul fans who can't seem to grasp that concept.
My post was in reference to yours that "if the surge is working, how can al-queda still be strong?" not sure the surge had anything to do with AQ. more to do with calming down the sunnis and shias. and to answer your question, yes. the farther away the better. preferably across some ocean (as it has been)
This position really throws into question why we went into Iraq in the first place. If Al-Queda is stronger than ever then the tactic of fighting a war in Iraq to keep them fighting us over there instead of coming here doesn't seem so effective. I'm not sure we're even close to a conclusion in Iraq, and if it keeps getting drawn out we will bust the dollar and hit recession. All the candidates last night restated their commitment to trying to broker peace in the world with money and troops, which totally ignores our financial situation. If we tank the dollar all those plans for foreign entanglements (and future problems) will go up in smoke. LSUsupaFan was criticizing Ron Paul for not having a specific plan, but after last night I'd argue he has a more realistic plan than the rest of the candidates. Most talk in empty promises and goals, addressing issues and setting goals which no one would disagree with without talking about specific implementation. They don't show the level of understanding that Ron Paul does. I think it is misguided to say you won't vote for Ron Paul because he doesn't have a plan. If Ron Paul doesn't (I think he does to an extent) the other guys really don't. McCain is probably closest but his foreign policy assumes our financial situation is stable, even strong. Maybe he doesn't have a problem funding military excursions with funs loaned from the Chinese. That sounds totally irresponsible to me.
