And guess who backed the Israelis? The Soviets could do nothing without opening themselves to attack.

Yom kippur proved to Soviet allies that not only was Soviet military equipment lousy, but the Soviet Union itself could not project power. Egypt soon after switched sides permanently.

I think your description of the Arabs as having no access to a nuclear deterrent is a drastic oversimplification of the situation.

Red, I enjoy your contributions as much as anyone but you can't have it both ways. You can't constantly demand evidence on the one hand and then on the other blithely accept a desperate politician's shoddy story about the death of Bin Laden absent ANY corroborating evidence whatsoever.

It has to be consistent. You demand more evidence of me than you do of POTUS. Don't you think your standards are a little out of whack....given the resources available to me and the resources available to the White House?

The Kennedy assassination is a good, quick litmus test for whether or not an individual has **** fo' brains or not.

Any in depth discussion would be better served by having it's own thread....another time.

Other than that....Argentina did not attack/invade Great Britain....they tried to retake territory they consider their own.

Same situation regarding Chechnya/Russia....these are seperatist actions territorial disputes. This is completely different than Iraq attacking the US or Iran attacking Israel.

The larger point is the War on Terror is just a cover to justify US/Western aggression in the middle east.

None of what you just cut and paste has ever been substantiated. What has been substantiated is the Soviets were not going to risk a third world war over this, especially since the US refused to back down after the Soviets threatened to intervene following the cease-fire.

I just did a case study on this a few weeks ago and spent a hell of a lot more time on the conflict than your five minutes it took to look up some article that may or may not have any credibility whatsoever. Doing these kinds of case studies is a necessary part of my profession. But nothing is going to change your mind about anything, anyway, no matter how many times you've been debunked.

Good lord, man. I appreciate you bringing up the point. The Soviets always backed down so I'm not sure when you think the Soviets were willing to risk WWIII. My point was that the Arabs did have a nuclear card to play.

You cannot deny this was discussed on all sides and factored into their decision making. No I cannot say what would have happened. Who knows if the Israeli's actions were a bluff or not. You cannot know this.

What you can know is that the Soviets and their nuclear capability was a factor in the calculations by all sides at the time.

If you don't mind me asking what kind of work do you do? If you don't want to answer, feel free to refuse. I don't like giving out personal info either.
