Did you not pay attention to the SEC last year? The SEC teams that went to the BCS bowls (Auburn and Arkansas) both had average to below-average SEC defenses (Auburn #9 total D/#8 scoring D, Arkansas #5 total D/ #7 scoring D), but they had the #1 and #2 offenses in the SEC. Also, the team that won the SEC East (South Carolina) had an average to below average SEC defense (#7 total D/ #6 scoring D).

Without you not using any emoticons I'm not sure if this was toungue in cheek or serious so I'll take it as serious.

It proves my point. What we call "average" defenses in the SEC are still very good defenses. The "below average" SEC defense of Auburn limited Oregon to < 20 pts. Looking at the BCS era in totality the SEC has seperated itself via defense.

Another point would be, those teams the SEC had with great offenses, Auburn and Arkansas, give their defense a small break because they were on the field alot with those quick hit offenses.

Well I'd say the majority of coaches wouldn't call those plays. Of course its not risky in the sense when you bring up the stats but it is unconventional, different to say the least. The games were dramatic, high stakes, he knew how how to win. I say he is risky and it's a good thing.

I picked this off a Duck site - says it all when you are talking Pac-12 vs SEC

Assuming enough conference teams have the prerequisite winning record to become bowl eligible, the Pac-12 will be represented in a minimum of seven postseason games:

• New Mexico Bowl (Sat., Dec. 17, 11 a.m. on ESPN) – Pac-12 No. 7 vs. MWC
• MAACO Bowl Las Vegas (Thu., Dec. 22, 5 p.m. on ESPN) – Pac-12 No. 5/6 vs. MWC
• Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl (Wed., Dec. 28, 5 p.m. on ESPN) – Pac-12 No. 3 vs. Big 12
• Valero Alamo Bowl (Thu., Dec. 29, 6 p.m. on ESPN) – Pac-12 No. 2 vs. Big 12
• Hyundai Sun Bowl (Sat., Dec. 31, 11 a.m. on CBS) – Pac-12 No. 4 vs. ACC
• Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (Sat., Dec. 31, 12:30 p.m. on ESPN) – Pac-12 No. 5/6 vs. Army
• Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO (Mon., Jan. 2, 2 p.m. on ESPN) – Pac-12 No. 1 vs. Big Ten

I understand your confidence in your team. I have that same confidence in Oregon. Just because we lost a CB and a couple of linemen doesn't mean we're soft on D all of a sudden. Oregon rotated 7 DL's last year. The player taking Bair's position is being compared to Haloti Ngata (No joke). Oregon will be just fine on the D line. Cliff Harris being out sucks, but we actually have better cover corners that will get a chance show their stuff. We thought when our senior corner (WT3) went out last year, that our secondary would suffer, but they didn't skip a beat.

The loss of Harris hurts more on special teams. Luckily Kenyon Barner was the primary punt returner last year before he got concussed, so we should be good there as well.

I think LSU will get their yards on the ground. I also think they'll win the TOP battle. But Oregon is used to that. They were ranked 102 in TOP in 2010. Oregon was closed to last the year before.

Oregon scored 35 of their 71 scoring drives in the regular season that took five plays or less, and 24 took less than 56 seconds. Oregon doesn't need a lot of time to score, so TOP is meaningless, as long as the offense is on.

It'll be a great match up of strength vs. strength. The 14 point predictions I've been seeing on here are a bit much, but I can't hold that against a fan who wants their team to win.

Cheers!

So are you talking about the bowl tie-in's, or the statement "Assuming enough conference teams have the prerequisite winning record to become bowl eligible..."

i think he's saying that those bowls don't sound as prestigeous as the SEC bowls like Allstate Sugar, Capital One (used to be Citrus Bowl), AT&T Cotton, Outback Steakhouse (used to be Hall of Fame Bowl), Chick-fil-A (used to be Peach Bowl), Franklin American Mortgage Music City, AutoZone Liberty Bowl

Yeah, our old conference president sucked. Not a good businessman, and a worse marketing guy.

Our new president Larry Scott is a breath of fresh air on the left coast. He's already struck a new media deal with ESPN/Fox for $250 Million a year, straighten up our reffing system (worse than high school officials IMO), and expanded the league to 12 teams, creating a championship game (More exposure).

After 10 years of the last guy, we're happy where were going. Even if it's to some sh---ty bowls for a couple of more years.
