Amp Hill is getting a redshirt, so he will be a RSFR next year. Also, Clayton will definitely be back. He already announced it.
Would it conceivable in light of the depth that we have at WR next year to play Clayton full time on D and part time on O ?
No. We will have LaRon Landry plus the resign of Daryl Johnson. Those are two good safeties. We also have a number of good DBs that are young and should have learned the system by next year. Mario Stevenson is supposed to be a pure lockdown corner, so if he is here and Webster stays then our secondary should be very strong.
Nah. I think his future is on the offensive side of the ball. The NFL covets guys who can catch, pile up YAC, and block. Essentially, he has all the tools to be a playmaker. Another year of experience and exposure and he will be improve his stock for the draft. Roy Williams over at Texas is doing the same thing this year. He will be one of the more coveted receivers in the draft because of his ability to make and impact the outcome of plays.
I agree, most people think Roy Williams was dumb for not leaving last year and going out with a bang. But if you notice the top draft choices aren't usually on the National Title teams. They are players like Roy Williams and Michael Clayton who are all around solid players and can benefit teams in the NFL.
KoC, Glad to see on the same page as me in that respect. I thought that Roy Williams did what most college players should do. Stay in school, get your degree (or get within a few hours of it), help your team, help recruiting, and improve your draft stock. Its not often that a player who returns for another year of school significantly lowers his stock, unless he suffers a major injury. MaGahee blew out his knew and was still taken very high.
The difference between Clayton and the other recievers in this years draft his that he is the whole package, and this has NFL scouts salivating over him. He can run routes, he can catch, he can block, and he can pretty much do anything you ask. Hell, if you want him to he will even play special teams for you. The pro scouts know that Clayton is the best all around reciever in the draft, trust me. Having a weak statistical season is overrated, especially when you are getting double teamed half the time...
Andre Johnson only had 700 something yards last year. Statistics aren't terribly important when it comes to the draft.
