These people should realize that because someone lives in Louisiana or wears an LSU shirt that does not make them a fan. I wonder how many people in NO were fans(real fans) and how many were there because they knew there was going to be one hell of a party. Also to be considered is that of the many thousand OU fans in town, there are only a hand full complaining about bad treatment or abuse, of which I am sure there was some. But perhaps some of these OU people should try to grow thicker skin and have some fun enjoying someone elses culture. In other words: LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS!!!!
I would say the large majority of LSU fans I encountered in NO were very friendly and fun. There were a few times where I saw trouble brewing and just stayed away or didn't say anything. There were a few instances however of some pretty rude and nasty behavior by LSU fans (or people wearing LSU shirts). I personally witnessed more than one instance of profanity-laced "smack" directed at families with children and, in one instance, an elderly couple in OU gear who were just walking by. Statements such as "F U Sooners" and "Hey grandma, suck this" and "I hope your pacemaker can stand the fk'ing you are going to see tonight" were but a few of the comments. I swear I think the lady started crying. I also witnessed beer being poured on OU fans in the quarter from some of the balconies and alot of young drunken fools getting right in the face of OU fans yelling "Tiger bait" over and over as they walked by. It wasn't just the usual guy yelling that from across the street, but literally getting in people's faces and screaming at the top of their lungs. The thing about this that really upset me was the fact that it was usually young guys doing this to women, older men, and in one instance, a child of about 10 or so. I post this to help some of you understand that it wasn't necessarily "sour grapes". These things did happen. But I do want to stress my earlier point. For the most part, the fans I actually had personal contact were friendly and were interesting to talk to. I had many nice conversations with all sorts of LSU fans, both young and old, on the streets and in restraunts. My only real complaint is that I think majority of LSU fans who have class could do a better job of policing those who don't. And as I posted in another thread. Congratulations on your National Championship. LSU deserved it.
And all the ou fans are top class? whatever! check out mr...and i use that loosely...usmcsooner's comments...according to him, he almost single handedly whipped every lsu fan's ass.
geauxsooner, Thanks for the compliments and kudos on our championship. I assume you live in the Norman/OKC area and have listened to the talk radio and read the newspapers since the game. There is, to say the least, much sour grapes about. The attitude toward Jason White is deplorable. You would think that this team had not won a game all year. I've gone into town each day wearing something with LSU on it and if looks could kill, I'd be dead and buried! So far no one has shot me the finger yet but I haven't been to well received at the local Wal-Mart in Moore. You know as well as I from when OU won the 2000 NC, there would be flags flying from every car and truck, everybody wearing an OU shirt, just like I am sure it is in BR today. To be honest, I'm just a little bit scared to go out right now. Traber says he is not an OU fan but I went to see him yesterday on location and he wasn't too friendly. My point is, as we all know, there are idiots on both sides. It is a shame that grownups have to act this way. I apologize on behalf of all true Tiger fans to ANY OU fan that feels they were mistreated in any way. We aren't like that. Tiger fans and Louisianans as a whole pride ourselves on ourr hospitality. So I hope one day you will return to my fair state and have a more enjoyable trip in every way except winning the fb game if it happens to be against LSU. A misplaced displaced coonass in Soonerland! GEAUX TIGERS!!!! :geaux: :helmet: :lsug: :helmet: :geaux:
That's pretty funny Mike. I guess you didn't see my location. I live in none other than Baton Rouge. The whole Jason White thing is just a few idiots who actually remembered to pay their telephone bill last month calling into the sports talk to prove their intelligence. They don't speak for the majority of OU fans by a long shot. I went out with some buddies to the Chimes earlier this week for some food and beverage. I got the OU emblem on the back of my car torn off. I should have known when the OU flag in front of my house was stolen last Saturday that would happen eventually. I don't blame all LSU fans for that in the least. I know that is just the way it is sometimes. It is unfortunate but reality. I didn't mean my earlier post as an indictment of all LSU fans. I was just pointing out that some of the posts on soonerfans.com were most likely based on fact, not poor sportsmanship. OU fans were definitely in the minority last weekend. Just like a road game. It was all things LSU down there as one would expect. I know that in Norman if a fan gets out of line, especially in a vulgar and/or violent way, they are usually quickly put back in line by five or so OU fans. I've seen it and done it. There were some instances last weekend were problems could have been avoided if a few LSU fans would have stepped up and said something. Again, I really don't want this to become a "Who has worse fans?" thread. That's not my point. All schools have their bad apples. I just witnessed some behavior last weekend towards "visiting fans" that I just hadn't seen before. I know nobody on this board condones such stupidity.
No, I didn't see that you were in BR. My wife just came in from town and she has an LSU windsock on her car. She said she went by the PO and some guy there looked at her as if he wanted to pull a gun on her. She was actually frightened.
Hey guys....Let me regale you with a story from the night of January 1st, 2000... The day I turned 21...Y2K hysteria, Y2K bug hysteria, turn of the millenium, and I WAS LEGAL AS OF 12:08 AM, BABY! Our plans had about a dozen and a half people rolling down to New Orleans and the Quarter...We ended up in Club 735 to hang out, try out that newly "legal" ID of mine, and to generally have a good time listening to some good techno music... We took our time walking down Bourbon, as it was a sight to behold... We saw lots of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, as well as lots of Florida State followers... Fans from BOTH sides were numerous...But, the point of the story is this... I see a guy waving a Virginia Tech flag back and forth in the middle of the street on Bourbon yelling some silly chant for VT...I got a kick out of it...He was obviously trashed, and had either some friends or fellow kindred spirited VT fans chanting and saluting around him... The next thing I know, some FSU fans come by us and they're doing the "Chop and Chant" that FSU and the Atlanta Braves are famous for... The guy with the flagpole stops waving, says, "F*** you, FSU!!" and then proceeds to LEVEL one of the FSU fans walking right near us...He just literally WHACKS the guy with his pole, and he goes down...to the ground... It was REALLY frightening...He tried to run off, but my friend and I birdogged him and rousted him up and brought him back to the scene until some Officer Friendly's showed up on the scene...We gave statements, and walked off...Later on, the VT friends he had found us on Bourbon when we came out, and accosted us...It was only 4 guys, and the rest girls with our group, and thank God we were in a public place...I'm no reed in the wind, so to speak, and Crawfish, Guzzlingil, and Tigs here can attest to this, but there were 7 or 8 of them, and only 4 of us, and a gaggle of 18-20 year old girls... Quite unnerving...but thankfully, they thought better of the thought of tangling with us...Left a bad taste in my mouth... I've also heard some bad stories from some friends of mine who went to VT to open the season in 2002... But, hey...You've never heard about the poor treatment, mob mentality, and outright boorish and violent behavior displayed by the VT fans... There are behavior problems with every team's fanbase in AMERICA. Hell, St. John's fans who played Mount Union in the Division II final had signs that read, "Mount this!". There are bad fans and bad behavior at LSU home games...This is something that unfortunately won't go away, but can be minimized... To act outraged and/or astonished that a town like NEW ORLEANS, in an area only a MINUTE'S walk away from the most outrageously over the top excessive downtown area in the Northern Hemisphere could produce some instances of bad behavior could be described as naive...but that wouldn't do it justice... If you think that LSU fans, and even some OU fans, weren't going to show their collective arses during the weekend at LEAST a few times, then you should increase your dosages...Or find a rehab program that has a good track record of breaking the cycle of addiction to mind-altering substances... Since when does this make sense to you guys? Bourbon Street+Holiday Season+LSU fans+National Title Game+Country Bumpkin opposing fans in town+alcohol+football game=civil treatment of LSU's opposing fans? Gimme a break...
Here's an example of one of their threads. Man, just got home from work and heard a 150 lb. Mountain Lion killed and attacked two other mountain bikers in a park in the hills right behind our house. They have 3 or 4 helicopters flying around looking for it. I just went riding there Sunday right before the game. I have seen a couple around there in the last few years but tthought they were just big bad cats and harmless to adults. I know we have been hearing the LSU fans yell tigahbait and all...but that guy was real Tigerbait.
