You would think that might help, but Bitter has already tried that and it is not getting him any better results.

It matters. I still love LSU basketball. I used to really like LSU baseball but it's really hard to follow the team if you're not in the state. Obviously, I want LSU to have success in all sports they enter. Anyway, the pecking order for me has always been LSU football and Saints first. On a completely separate note, I've been really enjoying the NBA since they made the rule changes to allow for less ugly defensive driven games a few years ago.

I'd rather see LSU win a NC in men's basketball than any other sport. Basketball will always be my #1 love. This contrasts greatly with a lot of local fans, so they don't always necessarily understand why I want Brady gone, especially after a Final Four that he personally had little to do with.

I really enjoy LSU basketball so that would be the one sport aside form football that really matters to me. I've never really gotten into college baseball, even during the championship years.

As far as all the other sports go, I really don't care. If they're doing well then sure they catch my interest and I am more inclined to watch. Kinda like the softball team. There is no sense in pretending like I've been a fan all along though like some people are doing now.

You make some interesting points. And, if you only knew how much this poster would like to make this a UCLA vs USC knashfest. But, I can't help but sense a little bit of USC bias coming out of this post... :hihi:

No doubt, after doing some research, it does appear that USC is right on UCLA's heels (as usual), as is Stanford in these standings... so I can understand your pain. But, crying over how the football championships don't count in the "official" NCAA championships race (see official here: http://www.ncaasports.com/story/10183167) sounds oh so reminiscent of 2003. Basically Trojans crying over the being held to the rules, and not coming out on top.

Sure, there are people you could find that would agree that a NC in football would be better than another water polo championship. Just like I could ask wouldn't Joe Trojan like to trade one of its track and field championships (for the most part, your 26 championships on the track make up most of YOUR number) in for a basketball championship (as far as I know, it's never gotten one of those  ). So, I take some offense with your post since I don't think Badminton is a NCAA sport counted in UCLA's list, but it seems as though the real objective comparison is the weighing the value of USC's baseball championships, versus UCLA's in soccer, golf and basketball (those are the sports that the other school doesn't have a NC in). I guess I'd also retort, most Bruins this year probably will take their 100 championships, and relish their 13-9 win.

Lastly, I won't completely discount your nice little theory about how 'SC got somehow got a raw deal b/c of Title IX, but again, I kind of can't help but NOT feel sorry for you. I guess what you're saying is b/c 'SC is private, it's harder to pay for schollies? Well, I wonder how 'SC can pay Pete Carroll about 3.5 times more than Karl Dorrell then?

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/graphics/coaches_contracts/flash.htm

I guess if UCLA has no championships since Dorrell's regime, and Pete has one... was it worth it to you? Again, I take offense at another cheapshot at Dorrell, when you consider UCLA, as a state-regulated school, cannot pay its coaches nearly what other schools can. All you have to do is stack up Howland's salary vs. Floyd's, Dorrell's vs. Carroll's, etc. And, as for your "highest paid CA coaches" line, perhaps Tedford is a pretty good coach, but not as good as Dorrell it seems, since Dorrell has actually beat Pete this year, right (BTW, Tedford makes almost twice as much as Karl)?

I guess the way I'd look at it is Title IX made a lot of changes in the college game that perhaps USC hasn't come to grips yet with? It seems that USC would much rather put all of its eggs in the football basket, and to that end, they are certainly entitled to brag when it comes to that sport. They may have the best football program that money can buy. Literally.

And, to bring it back home....

:geauxtige LSU shouldn't be left out of this discussion... LSU has 40. Only 3 behind Arkansas. LSU and Arkansas in the top 10, and no Florida or Kentucky on this list... Now, what do SEC fans think of that as a barometer?

I did no crying in my post. Go back and read my very first comment. There were comments by Tiger fans that SoCal is really not a football oriented area and that the minor sports are what matters. I was simply pointing out that ucla's achievement does not include football! Any discussion of NCAA NC's should include football IMO and most likely shared by a lot of folks in SEC country.

No badminton is not an NCAA sport. It's a club and you'd have to be local to understand the jab. Bruin fans are celebrating their club's 2005-2006 win as though it were another piece to the 100 pie. Not sure I understand you comment about "other" NC's. USC does have one Golf title, 2 in Women's Basketball and we don't compete in men's soccer so naturally it's tough to have a NC there.

I never claimed SC got a raw deal. I said college athletics changed permanently when rules limiting the number of schollies went into effect along with Title IX. The concept was to level the playing field and yet it has turned out quite like Affirmative Action. Unintended consequences (elimination of many men's sports.....ask CSUF about their football team), no updated measurements as to success or failure, and no end date to determine whether "the problem" has been fixed. At ucla's own campus the enrollment numbers for Black students is the lowest it's ever been. I'd say it's not working. Many schools continue to come to grips with these rules.

Where did I take a cheap shot at Dorrell? If bruin fans want to hang their hat on 13-9, then so be it. Funny how the numbers 66-19 so quickly faded in their memory. I can tell you that many bruin faithful were actually hoping for a loss that day knowing it would mean Dorrell's fate would be sealed. Thanks to Dwayne Walker, they've got at least one more year.

With 23 claimed NC's in Football, SEC fans would be a little nuts to think it doesn't matter when discussing overall number of Championships. Bama fans for sure would have a lil' something to say.
