Not so much a fairness issue as a qualification issue. My career field in the military: 1C4. When Clinton was President they decided to allow women into combat positions so our career field had to open up to women. There were a few who tried to complete the training but because of the physical demands of the training they all dropped out within a few weeks. I think a few more have tried along the way but none have ever succeeded. That said, if there is a woman who is bad ass enough to complete the training then more power to them.
Your point about not being allowed to try out for the Women's Gymnastics Team isn't exactly a good example because of the word "Women" in the title. Sure there are boundaries that relate to sex and fair competition but the military isn't one of them. You can either perform the job or not. If you cannot then you are out. If you can then you are in.
Look at it this way: Two movie theaters across the street from one another. Theater 1's only requirement is the price of admission. If you have the money to get in then you are allowed entry; plain and simple. Theater 2 requires the price of admission and that you have curly hair. One is discriminating and one is not. The price of admission applies to all movie goers. Curly hair does not.

Sure, quote your stories of the outlier's that have served and served well. You are still ignoring the costs of dealing with a clear group of people out are "already" mentally unstable in many regards.

This is no different than the butch woman who can beat up dudes. Its few and far in-between.

This is also ignoring the separate facilities needed for transgender people. As a fighting force, combat units should be male and male only.

I agree with your premise but your premise is not your premise There are you seem to be indicating that there are no requirements but there are. All of the curly haired kids are 17 years old with fake id's and the others are 6 years old. In this case the curly headed kids are watching porn with you.... There are a shit ton of things to "ban" you from service. Like asthma. I had a buddy with asthma that could run circles around me for some odd fucking reason. But his case was mild. Military wont take you. You know, because of the risk of that group pool.

People with clear mental issues, no its not a derogatory term, should not be allowed to join in any fashion.

In-fact, stricter mental test are underway in the force. For good reason.
