everyone has failed to mention what i believe is the biggest weakness of using the option part-time---TURNOVERS! the very last thing this offense needs to do is commit turnovers.
lol i think most are overanalyzing it. Many teams with a mobile qb will run some type of option play to loosen up a stacked front line....its no big risk and it usually works well. no one thinks NS will make it standard....hell they run it now on occassion and it works fine. problem is they didnt run it last game when it seems they coulda/shoulda.
Turnovers are caused by lack of execution no matter what offense or play you are running. We don't throw to the TE or FB often either, should we take it completely out of the playbook? How about the reverse that we run once or twice a game we better let that one go too, way too risky. We don't throw the ball down field a whole hell of a lot maybe we should scrap that also. So that leaves us with the run up the middle and the bubble screen, that should scare the hell out of oposing defenses.:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: The last thing we need is to go back to the Dinardo scared to try anything offense. If something isn't working don't be too scared to mix in something a little different, not a whole new system just a new wrinkle or two. Jimbo has to find a way to give our two struggling QB's some confidence, maybe a little option sprinkled in isn't the answer but going into a shell and playing prevent offense isn't either.
That's true in the triple-option, as in the old wishbone. But there are also pitch-or-carry option plays that can be run out of the pro-set, without a third fullback dive option.
