Can anyone recall the SEC office mandating a certain number of open dates as a max your competitor can have in a season. I know this came about because everyone tried to schedule an open date in front of bama. We have had three competitors, vandy, bama and arkansas with open dates and I thought there was a max if two.
Most seasons have one open date per team but when the calendar dictates you play your first game in August each teams have two.
Sorry, must have not remotely been clear... The topic is open dates your competitors have before they play you. 3 teams had open dates before they played us.
In the case of Vandy and Ark, it really doesn't give them a competitive advantage because of the talent gap. Bama and LSU always have a bye before we play each other. Since you only get 1 or 2 byes a season, you just have to pick where you want it and it's typically before your biggest game(s) unless that game is in the first couple of weeks of the season. You'd really be wasting it if you scheduled one after game 3 or something like that.
I was listening to I think Cowherd before the season and he said every team that played Notre Dame had an open date the week prior. Pretty sure it was him, didn't look it up so don't know if its accurate or not.
Teams scheduling an open date the week before us is like having to pay a lot of taxes- it’s a good thing, trust me. People who pay a lot of taxes make a lot of money. Teams who others schedule open dates before are winners.
you guys live in a different world,.. the Pac12 conference office sets our schedules, none of the schools have any say in off dates
They can probably request the open date they want and likely it would be granted if there id no reason not to.
