I want to see all the media and Black Coaches Asssociation put up a fuss over Cutcliffe's fireing. He was 44-29 and had a winning record in the SEC. He has been much more successful than Tyrone W. But I bet u dont hear any bitching about his firing like TW's. All they(BCA) are doing is hurting their cause. Why would a school hire a black coach when they know if they cant fire him without the race card coming out. :champs:

Actually, I am going to disagree with most of you on this one. Sure, Cutcliff was a good coach for Ole Miss and I think he really liked Ole Miss. However, college football is changing every day and the game is much different now than it was even 5 years ago. Programs are being built in 3 years and the next generation of coaches is bursting onto the scene like itsy-bitsty, teeny-weenie, yellow polka dot bikinis. Also, Ole Miss had several discipline problems this year and Cutcliff appeared to have lost control at some points. Not to mention they lost to Wyoming and Memphis for the second year in a row.

The next big name in college football coaching is an assistant right now. We poke fun at Ole Miss and we know that the bigger names will look down their noses at Ole Miss, but there are lots of coaches out there looking to make the jump and seize their opportunity. Ole Miss is in the SEC. Ole Miss is committed financially to their football program. Ole Miss is perfect for an ambitious, hungry, young coach with a fighter’s attitude and a warrior’s mindset who just needs an opportunity. If you don’t think college football has changed, remember that Cal-Berkley is ranked in the Top 5 right now – it’s all about opportunity. Ole Miss has just created an opportunity and they have done it with very little to lose. I thought Cutcliff was great for Ole Miss, but I applaud the move. Why the hell not?

Think about it: kids are buying into coaches, attitudes, philosophies and systems more and more these days. Coaches are turning programs around faster than ever before. Ole Miss wants to win and compete in the SEC – RIGHT NOW. Attitude, it’s all about attitude and I think it will turn out well for them. This is the SEC. For some coach out there this is the opportunity he has dreamed about his entire life and he will not allow it to pass him by. If we were still in the 80’s or 90’s I would bet that Ole Miss hires a nobody and underachieves for a few more years before doing it all over again. Nowadays, people want to win and people demand winners – Ole Miss has made the statement that they will be no exception. New coaches sell tickets and create energy as well. Good coaches are swimming under the radar right now as everyone focuses on the high profile vacancies. Ole Miss could steal a deal and get it right.

    Here’s to them failing miserably…

Well said. They stuck with Billy Brewer for years, canned him and took a chance on an assistant when they hired Wingnut. Of course he wisely got out while the getting was good, but he put them on the map. You look at Cutcliffe, he has no personality and he himself cannot generate any energy or excitement. Croom is going to kill them in in-state recruiting. He can generate excitement, Cutcliffe can't. I don't think they are making a move to attempt to become an upper echelon SEC team, they are simply fighting to remain in the middle of the pack.

It was less than 2 years ago that I sat with Ole Miss fans at the Independence Bowl who were scared that Cutcliffe was about to take some other job that had just opened. Things change so rapidly.

I think that a coach that has done what no Ole Miss coach has ever done including Vaught should be retained. He is the only Ole Miss coach that has won 7 or more games in his first 5 years. They just made a huge mistake and I am glad that they did. :eek:lefire:
