Bowden's Secretary: "Coach Bowden, Ole Miss is on the line." Bowden: "Who?" Bowden's Secretary: "The University of Mississippi." Bowden: "What do they want?" Bowden's Secretary: "They want you to coach at Ole Miss." Bowden: "Coach Football!?" Bowden's Secretary: "Yes." Bowden: "Tell them I'm not here." Bowden's Secretary: "I already told them you were here." Bowden: "Tell them I'm in the shower." Bowden's Secretary: "Coach, they said they know that you don't have a shower in your office like all the other coaches they called." Bowden: "DAMNIT!"
From what I heard of the press conference, they gave him the opportunity to overhaul his coaching staff, he slept on it and decided against it. I admire his loyalty to his assistants, but he should have been willing to make the changes. From 10 wins to 4 and their defense was horrible even when Eli was there, he should have been able to see the need for changes. You either accept what is or make an attempt to improve. I hate Ole Miss but they did what had to be done.
This is a disgrace. Ole Miss made a huge mistake. It will be a few years before Croom can really turn it around and bring Miss. St back to competitive but his job just got alot easier. Just stay where you are Nick. Use it in your recruiting and put some pressure on ol Ryan with the Utah QB commit. Geaux Tigers
umm there defense overperformed Eli's last year and the year before. they were probably the toughest defense we faced last year if you objectively watched all the LSU games. Yes, I heard Cut told them he was not changing for them today but he shouldnt have to. The admins had it out for him, thats all. they are ridiculous. good luck, maybe dinardo will take it.
ALWAYS expect the Ole Miss folks to pull some headline grabbing shinanagins. It's really the best they can hop for. Whoever they get has to be brain dead. :dis:
2003 vs. Vandy won 24-21 vs. Memphis lost 44-34 vs. Texas Tech lost 49-45 vs. Bama won 43-28 vs. USC won 43-40 Their secondary play is the worst I've seen in the SEC in a while, including last year. We spotted them seven last year and went ultra-conservative and didn't take advantage of it; couldn't take advantage this year. They gave up over 650 yards rushing in back to back games against Ark. and LSU. True they played over their heads in some games, but evaluating the whole season the past two years their defense was way below par for an SEC team. I'll give OU credit for being the toughest defense we faced last year. And they had it out for him after the Auburn game, but sometimes you have to do what the boss says or live with the consequences. He got away with it once, and they called his bluff this time.
that's as much as you can expect from a subpar SEC team getting manhandled and totally beat up each week. They simply don't have the bodies nor ever will. Can they improve? sure but not enough to become a factor. And no, LSU whipped OU's defense and struggled versus Ole Myth's. Not even close. Tommie Harris who?
I never said they weren't a subpar team and won't always be, but I don't fault them for at least attempting to make improvements. I'd love to see the athletic director stand up and say we are at best mediocre and always will be - heck I'd shoot him a few rep points if i could for it. I still say OU's was better, take out Vincent's run even though we didn't score, because it gave us field position after the int. But we handicapped ourselves all day against ole miss with terrible field position and playing tight as hell on offense.
