Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? JR is one of the best QBs in the nation and he is the one who got us where we are today. Yes, he has made mistakes but he overcomes them in grand style. He has many more pluses than he does minuses. Most universities would be thrilled to have him.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? Convenient how we can ignore all of the times he's choked... You fail to mention EXCELLENT running game & Oline - neither of which we come close to having this season, and both make a substantial difference in how well a QB performs. I'll go on record as saying we'd have one more loss - to Tennessee, plus our other 2 losses would be by larger margins.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? Glad to see how it's turning out. That was a good idea......maybe Smiley will pick up on it. Wouldn't be bad to have JR be made aware of the final % of fans who support him. I know the variables that must be considered when conducting polls but people who visit this forum are die hard as they come. + and - margin of error doesn't have to be figured....politicians use numbers as they fit their campaigns. Just thought it would be nice for our quarterback to see, though some still have some questions, he still has the support of the overwhelming majority. The problem is that the people who don't support players, coaches are usually more vocal by nature. Not aimed at anyone here, and I have no qualms with nothing people voicing opinions just an observation. Reminds me of a saying I like............ the squeaky wheel gets the oil. :yelwink2:
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? People say that he will be starting on sunday and be a great NFL QB. Best comparison: Dante Culpepper Culpepper was great in Min. (thank you Randy Moss) Moss leaves, Dante sux but gets hurt. Now he's in Miami and sucked early before they pulled him. I think he will be just like him....flashes of greatness but still makes mistakes.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? A part of - not necessarily responsible for. One was a one on one matchup with a WR who was substantially taller than the CB - an int you don't expect to happen & not a poor decision. One was caught and then let go - not JaMarcus' fault - all the blame lays on Bowe for that one.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? Exactly. No track record. Flynn played in a number of other games last year and this year and was unspectacular.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? I am still undecided on JR's football IQ. But I never questioned his ability. And the successful scrambles Sat was an added element that impressed. However, it all comes down to one thing for me.....JR led the game winning drive in the final seconds.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? I disagree with that, two of the picks in the Florida game, and one in the Tenn game were from tipped balls. Blame the WRs for that. Did he (JR) make some bonehead decisions? Yes, a few of them. He also made some bad calls against Auburn, too (that was when he DID take a sack instead of throwing the ball away, burning upwards of 15 seconds and at least one, if not two plays off of the game.) I like Russell...yes, I think he's still learning. Unfortunately, he's not where he should be, and I blame Saban for that (I'm sure I'll get flak for saying that); had Saban not flip-flopped QB's around in the '04 season, Russell might have more experience and better game management skills. But for the record? Russell by far is the best QB LSU has, and he's getting the job done.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? Most sports forum people have the attention span of a 2 year old. And had JR not being able to ONCE AGAIN come from behind to win, then everyone would have remembered how he played THROUGH OUT the game and not in the last minutes. I do not doubt nor do I discredit JRs talent, God choose to give him a cannon of an arm, and the ability to be hit by a car and laugh about it. But where he has talent overflowing, the guy is DUMB AS A ROCK. He does not know when to throw it away, or how far to throw it out of bounds when throwing it away. If he has this great arm throw the ****er into the stands. He does not know when he needs to thread the needle and when to give it some air. Not only does he not know when to do it, most of the time he does it backwards. He HARDLY EVER hits the Wrs on the run. Most of the time they are having to break stride just to have a chance of the ball. And the guy runs like Frankenstine, I keep waiting for villagers with torches and pitch forks to be chasing him. Now I will say this, if he is starting that says one of two things: 1.) He is the best choice as far as playing goes, which whens RP= Overhyped, Flynn= Hurt and we are gonna be in serious trouble if JR does chose to leave this year. OR 2.) Our coaches dont have a single clue on how to coach QBs and we are SCREWED. The real problem I have with JR is his faults are easily corrected with a little extra practice and studying of the game. You can not teach talent, that is God given, but you can teach someone to be a better player, if that player is smart enough and willing to learn. SO which is it?
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? I don't think he's dumb, per se, but he plays like he's inexperienced. He looks more like a Redshirt Freshman than a Redshirt Junior with his decision making. He's close minded on plays (many times forcing them to develop), he has tunnel vision, he freaks when he gets chased out of the pocket, and he's just now learning to put touch on the ball. Like you said, though...all of that can be corrected with practice...AND coaching. Had Jimbo left with Saban, I don't think Russell would be playing near as well as he is now. Russell has the makings to be an outstanding quarterback. It just seems his learning curve is developing much slower than it should be. That said, I still think he's a better QB than Flynn or Perrilloux.
