I loved that song! I haven't heard it in about 25 years! I, too, had the 45. I wonder what happened to it? Isn't there a line that goes something like: "You could even hear Colonel Reb yelling 'Hey, what am I doing here?!!!'"

I was at that game - when was it, 1971? If so, I was 12 years old. And, I enjoyed that game about as much as any of the many, many, LSU games that I've attended. The Tigers had an awesome defense! Tommy Cassanova, to this day, is my favorite player of all time. I even have a dog named Cassanova.

I am not old enough to remember Cassanova playing at LSU but in high school I got to tour the LA Legisilature(sp?) and I got to sit in Cassanova's chair in the chambers. I also have the famous Sports Illustrated magazine from 1971, I even bought a 2nd copy for my dad and gave it to him for Father's Day.

I remember watching the game...Chris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson(sp) did the play by play for that game. LSU had to win that game in order to play Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. It ended up being a NC game for Nebraska due to Stanford (Jim Plunkett and company) beating Ohio State that day in the Rose Bowl. LSU gave them a helluva game. Al Coffee caught a pass from Pat Lyons to give the Tigers a 12-10 lead in the fourth but Tagge and the Huskers moved down field to score the go ahead with little time remaining. Helluva run defense that year (I think the tigers lead the nation in run defense only giving up 38.0 avg/game) and Neb had hard time because thats what they did the best. Big Neb line wore down the tigers but we were still "sticking 'em" at the end. I wonder if the ABC archives has that LSU/Ole Miss game and NBC has the LSU/Neb Orange Bowl? ESPN Classic needs to show 'em. GEAUX TIGERS!

I still get goose bumps when i play it "Archie Who" . Its funny how something like that can bring back some great old memories.

LSU Football is more of a family member than a school. It becomes part of you and gets in your heart. Tradition, History, it gives you a feeling that life moves on but stays the same too.
