I voted maybe. What I mean is, in shrimp gumbo, it ain't unless its shrimp-okra gumbo! Other than that, no okra, except in some seafood gumbos its ok. With chicken and non-seafood meats, definitely no okra for me. Mine has to be smoothered down to de-slime it before putting it in the gumbo.
I have had okra in gumbos that have had rouxs and some that have not. I love it both ways. However, I prefer okra in a gumbo that has seafood in it. Try it, you'll like it.
I vote yes, though I admit to keeping the tastes of my prospective guests in mind. Some just don't like it but probably wouldn't know it was in there unless I told them. Not to hijack the thread, but have any of my fellow Houstonians found a decent gumbo here? Other than your own?
