Sorry, I disagree. Blacks, in general, are not any more stupid than the "averate" person (whatever that is). Now if you were to take a sub-group, such as high school drop-outs who do nothing with their lives afterwards, and claim they are not as intelligent as those who finish school, then you might be able to make a case for yourself. But that has nothing to do with either race or genetics. Part of the problem is that many of the blacks that make the headlines and seem to get all the attention are part of a small minority. So our attitudes are often based on the minority. Most blacks that finish school, go out and get jobs are as intelligent as anyone. Having served in the military for 20 years I have found the majority of blacks to be as intelligent and motivated as the next guy. In addition, having served as a Probation and Parole officer for 20 years, I have also seen the other side of the coin. But the type of people I dealt with as a P&P officer is hardly representative of the black communty. But, unfortuanately, those are the ones we here most about, and so our opionions and attitudes are shaped by that. We need to realize they are a minority.

Well, let's see... How could we prove such a thing. We could go by standardized tests scores. Would that be a good indication of intelligence? Because you should know that african american scores are much lower than the average.

Might be able to make a case? I don't think it would be too hard of an argument to say that in general, high school graduates are more intelligent than drop outs who do nothing with their lives.

I've never, and martin hasn't either (yet), made a case that the correlation is due to race - just that it exists within a race.

You will find that test scores are not always a legitimate test of intelligence. Many people do not do well at tests, but do very well in the real world. The opposite is also true. You will also find that all things being equal, home environment, quality of school, etc., blacks do very well on tests. It is those blacks who are in the poorer quality schools, and who do not come from a family with a good educational background who generally do not do so well.

 

There's no real measure of intelligence. Even IQ tests are flawed, but I think standardized test scores are a better measure than some think. Every truley intelligent person I know did well on them. The people that just studied a lot to make good grades didn't...

I made no comments about success. Success & intelligence are not at all the same.

Unfortunately, this is not true. Statistically, even blacks raised in similar environments with similar parent incomes score lower than their peers.

 

Personally I pray that God has something better to do then decide whether NOLA will be majority black or white.

 

The ability to make one's way in the world, to get and maintain a good job and handle day to day responsibilities, to raise and care for a family is very much a matter of intelligence, and generally considered a better indicator of intelligence than scores on tests that may be flawed anyway. In regards to the statistics, I question that very much, but I would have to take a look at who gathered the statistics, the method used and how they were interpreted. Statistics don't lie, but statisticians lie all the time. You can make statistics say pretty much what you want depending on how the data is collected, interpreted and manipulated.

 

god, being all-powerful, has enough time even for the least significant tasks, including notifying nagin that new orleans should keep up the darkie ratio. i think that is mentioned in one of the lesser known books of the bible, maybe ruth or thessalonians. "maintain the chocolate, sayeth the lord."
