I'll have to try Hackett's. Where's it at in LC?

It's been mentioned several times, but Rabidoux's in Iowa (La) has the absolute best smoked sausage. Sam's used to carry it but I haven't been there in a while.

Take the loop and head South at the Cameron exit, go about five miles and it's on the right hand side - a small shack with great smells. I drive from Baton Rouge there every year - Alligator Sausage for the UF game, Spicy mixed sausage for the game against the team with pigs on their helmets, and ALWAYS a load of the smoked spicy boudin.

Every year I have people try the stuff against what they have, and every year it beats all the others. This is just my preferance and the preference of the people I have had try it. I think I have tried almost all of them. In the our great state where food is unsurpassed, there are many good ones.

Yeah, some of you have mentioned that Poche's has gone down hill. I wasn't sure whether to say that or not. I've noticed that from this last batch of boudin I bought. I thought maybe I just got a bad batch. But apparrently, it's pretty common these days. Too bad. I guess I'll have to stick to Best Stop. Also, what would yall say is the best way to heat 'em up? I steam them, but does anyone else know any tricks?

Try Kroger's....if there's one close by. If not, Albertsons used to carry Rabideaux's sausage, too. Try the pork/venison mix w/ red beans. Awesome!

    Claw,

If you're ever around Port Arthur, TX, try Nick's grocery and meat market. They have the best boudin in Southeast Texas that I know of.

I have neen traveling the roads of south La. for 35 years and have consumed several large hogs in the form of crackins and boudin.. The best cracklins are at the Best Stop in Scott.. The best boudin by far is in Iowa, La. at Rabideauxs .. Pouchee in Breaux is also good

I gotta add my two cents about Swifty Mart in Carencro. I get fifteen pounds whenever I'm up that way. Once I'm home though, the family comes out the wood work for their share. I usually only end up with 3 or 4 pounds for myself. Hog's head, turkey head cheese and GREAT beef jerky and cracklin' go south to Thibideaux to Bougeois's (sp?) meats. They kick ass too!!
