Poche's in Breaux Bridge in my opinion has the best cracklins. I lived a mere 5 minutes away from Poche's at my mom's house during my 2 semesters at ULL. Lucky me. Those who live in the area, or are able to drive there, on Sunday afternoons they have an outstanding cajun homestyle lunch that is hard to beat. It is a very fair price, and always crowded. If I remember correctly, for the meal and drink it will be less than 10 dollars a head. You can pick and choose from a great variety of good south Louisiana dishes, in a buffet/piccadilly-ish style operation and the food is served hot and fresh. Oh yeah...feel free to go back for seconds......at no charge! Before you leave pick up a pound of the cracklins and maybe choose from a nice selection of cajun meats from their market. While I was living at my moms she bought the stuffed pork chops every weekend. Fresh off the pig, and high quality. Very spicy and full of flavor. Never had their boudin, however...

for boudin, Chalk up another vote for the Best Stop in Scott. The Best Stop simply cannot be beat when it comes to boudin. You will have trouble finding a spot in the undersized parking lot, but be patient, for you will be rewarded. There is always a huge line, but fear not, for it moves quickly. Be prepared to order as soon as you get to the front of the line. I once made the mistake of waiting longer than the customary 2 second order-commencing time window, and found myself nearly at the end of the line once again. So, you will order in a timely manner, and then recieve your cajun treats. Head to the cashiers counter. Pay no attention to the very old lady behind the counter. Head for the second register, for there will be a much younger, and more attractive cashier. For those interested in something a little different, get the smoked boudin. Unlike the regular boudin links, they will have to zap it in the microwave if you want to eat it right away. And let me tell you, their microwave gets the job done....and then alot more. IF HEADED WESTBOUND, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EAT THE HEATED SMOKED BOUDIN UNTIL YOU HAVE GOTTEN OFF THE BASIN BRIDGE AND PASSED THE 2 STATE TROOPERS WHO WILL NO DOUBT BE SITTING AND HOPING YOU WERE DRIVING FASTER THAN 65 mph. You could actually probably just put the microwaved smoked boudin under the seat and save it for after the game. Trust me- It will still be warm. And delicious.

Hope I have helped any coming out of state visitors- or anyone for that matter.

Oh yeah....one more thing...dont forget, while at the Best Stop, to buy no less than three 20 oz. bottles of your favorite spring water. You will be glad you did.

I agree about Poche's. They've gone downhill. Their cracklins are overcooked and hard as rocks.

The best stop at the scott exit, by far the best. I am flying into Lafayette (from AZ) for the big game and will back track west about 20 minutes just to get those Cracklins, they are worth it.

Dave's Meat Market in New Iberia has the best crawfish boudin and Legnon's has the best cracklin.

Allright guys, so many have mentioned The Best Stop so much that I think I need to make a little trip.

But everyone only writes "The Best Stop at the Scott/Cankton Exit".

The exit off of WHAT???? I-10? I-49? Hwy 90? Give me some directions people!

If headed west on I-10, it is about 10 minutes west of Lafayette. If headed west, you exit and turn right. It will be down a couple of miles on your left. Can't miss it.

If headed eastbound from Texas or whatever, when you pass eunice exit, crowley exit, etc., the Scott/Cankton exit isn't much further. You people headed east will take the exit, and turn left.

Not 10 minutes from Lafayette actually. It's the 1st exit after Ambassador Caffery.

Yes, you're right...I am used to driving from Breaux Bridge...

The exit number is 97, which means it is about 3 miles from lafayette.

Here is a link with entirely too much data, but will help those unfamiliar guests while on our roads...

    I-10 exits

Hackett's Cajun Kitchen in Lake Charles is the best to me and all who I have had try, bar none, although if your Yank stomach can't handle a little spice - stay away. Ask for the spicy smoked - yes he finally has a web site.
