You made some good arguments. There is a difference between freedom and license. Freedom is not the right to do anything you want; there are always restrictions of freedom. Freedom without restrictions is license. The argument you made for cockfighting can also be made for dogfighting, but just about everyone is opposed to that. I don't think there is much of a difference. Cruelty is cruelty. Living in a free society does not give us the right to be cruel. Freedom is defined by its boundaries. A hundred and sixty years ago slavery was part of our heritage, and in my lifetime segregation was part of our heritage. Simply because something is a part of your culture does not make it right. Whether it is 2% or 80%, wrong is wrong. If we can correct it then that is 2% less wrong with our state. Do it!
I was born and raised in LA, but left a few years ago because I can't stand the ignorant redneck culture prevalent in places like West Monroe. How's the paper mill smelling nowadays? My family lives in LA, 6 generations. My wifes family lives in LA, 4 generations. Just because I found opportunity in Texas where there was none in LA doesn't mean I can't have opinions about the direction LA is heading.
I for one LIKE the taste of chicken, thank you very much!:thumb: heh. heh...he said tex-ass.:hihi: Have you actually ridden around in TX much? Necks are pretty much in abundance in your area too. TX ain't exempt.
Not where I live in one of the largest Metropolitan area in the country. I don't ever see people in restaurants wearing camo jackets riding trucks with stickers of Calvin peeing on a Ford Symbol or whatever. When I go to Shreveport, Monroe, or East Texas I always get a kick out of how retarded half of the people look. Going out on Friday nights in shirts with the sleeves cut-off? Please. When my little brother got married in West Monroe recently, the girls went to the premier hair salon, and swear to god they did not know how to do any hairstyle but big and poofy. I am actually disappointed here when I go to sporting events and don't spot a single mullet. Just hot women, which Dallas is full of. But yes, the areas outside the city are full of them. If it makes me sound like an elitist snob, then guilty. I think the whole redneck culture is lame. And that's not because I don't live in LA anymore or don't realize that Texas is majority redneck.. I felt the exact same growing up as a kid in the BR suburbs. (actually, most of South Louisianians I grew up with regarded the people from the North LA area as rednecks)
Back on topic, it may be illegal in all the other 49 states, but you can drive the interstates in AL, GA, and TN, and clearly see farms where these roosters are raised in plain view. I doubt they raise them to eat. Outlawing the practice will not end it, but will only make outlaws of the organizers and attendees of the events.
North Louisiana is Baja Arkansas culturally, but it ain't as bad as all that. My mom still lives there and after the Hurricanes when the area hotels and shelters were full of New Orleans 9th warders, you should have seen the Wal-Mart. Hip-Hoppers and camouflage cowboys were all laughing their asses off at each other's clothes.
Wearing camo doesn't make you anymore a redneck than ****tin in the woods makes you a bear. During the week(at work), I wear a coat & tie everyday. On winter weekends, I prefer a camo jacket. Does that make me a redneck? or a cross dressing professional?
