World Cup Final: Most-watched soccer game ever! -- The Live Feed | THR

Wow: The World Cup Final shattered U.S. ratings records on Sunday, drawing 24.3 million U.S. viewers.

Domestically, that makes it the most-watched soccer game of all time, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The 1-0 victory by Spain, televised by ABC and Univision, surpasses the 19.4 million viewers that tuned in for the U.S. vs. Ghana match earlier in this World Cup.

FIFA: 700 mil worldwide watch World Cup final

Soccer's governing body FIFA estimates around 700 million people watched the 2010 2010 World Cup final live.

If that is correct, the match would beat out the estimated 600 million that caught the opening ceremony at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and would be on par, or slightly above, the 700 million that watched the World Cup final four years ago.

Spanish broadcasters said Ole! to record ratings as nearly 17 million fans watched the country's one-nil victory over the Netherlands in the finals.
About 16.8 million Spaniards -- 91% of their TV audience -- caught the highlight of the match, when Andres Iniesta rocketed in the winning goal in extra time giving Spain its first-ever World Cup win.

On average 15.6 million people in Spain, 86% of the audience, watched on the three channels broadcasting the match, an all-time average record, according to ratings agency Barlovento Comunicacion.
Roughly 91% of Dutch viewers tuned into public broadcaster NOS to watch as their Orange-mantled team failed in their third World Cup final. An average of 8.5 million Dutch caught the match, with millions more watching in pubs and public squares across the country.

Paul the Octopus Retires but not without offers to predict futures, sports, and politics...:lol:

Fittingly, Paul the octopus received his very own replica World Cup with a muscle on top which must have cheered the 2-year-old up.

Paul is currently an international star and many bookmakers allegedly offered to purchase him but his owners at the Sea Life Aquarium refused.

Tanja Munzig, a representative said “There are a lot of offers for Paul from betting offices and other areas. One thing is clear, Paul is staying with us.”

Munzig added “He won’t give any more oracle predictions either in football, or in politics, lifestyle or economy. Paul will get back to his former job, namely making children laugh.”

However there have been rumors that bookmakers allegedly struck a deal with the owners of Paul the oracle octopus after he managed to earn World Cup betters an estimated £500,000 in total.
