yep, that was as close to an impulse buy as I'm ever going to get....I was in the market for a tv but was going to do a lot of looking around online and the first google search for "great deals on tvs" got me to dealnews.com and after sorting by price, it was halfway down the first page and my extreme familiarity with newegg made me pull the trigger after I compared that price to the next best price on that same exact tv. walmart having it in the high 500s pretty much clinched the deal I pulled the trigger within 10 minutes of seeing that deal
it's more that it's no frills than cheap components, if that's what you're referring to 1080p TV only 2 hdmi's (that's all I needed for my cable and chromecast), 1 optical out (nice), 1 composite, 1 component it does have 120 motion rate (a bit surprising at this price point) 3.5 million:1 contrast ratio only 10 reviews on newegg (mostly good)...two people were not happy with the USB video support (something I will not be using)....one person said interlaced 1080i was horrible but then offers a workaround within the control of the tv itself to fix it. Amazon user reviews, 87 % have it at 4 or 5 star out of nearly 2000 reviews, overall 4.4 out of 5 which is very solid for Amazon. It has an unusually high percentage of 1 star votes (6 %) for a 4.4 rating. I looked at some of the reviews and many are just shipping issues like missing screws, hole in the box, etc.
I worked with CEO of CISCO on a stock transaction. He dumped at $60+, I bought , and within a month I was at $26. Then $14. Is that the kind of deal this thread is about?
So the picture quality of my Samsung is definitely better than my 60" vizio. Speakers are about as good as I have ever had on a LCD/LED tv.
samsung makes the best picture tvs in my experience. at least a couple years ago as its been that long since i was buying. its noticeable and has been with all that ive seen. even though ive always liked sony. most of the others mid to upper range arent noticeable unless side by side. by itself, samsungs pictures are usually noticeably different.
It's hard to beat the high-end Sony Bravias in quality, everybody beats their prices. Mine is an older one, pre-LED, and it is still outstanding. I have no reason to upgrade. 60" is too big for my small room where I'm sitting about 9 feet away. There is too little 4K and 3D video available to need any of that. The increase in quality from the LED backlighting is too small to worry about on a Sony.
