There are still awful spots. Burbank is a nightmare because of the Gardere light still being out. Actually, it's flashing yellow/red, but for some reason no one knows that you do not stop for a flashing yellow light. It is great to be back though. Finally got everything back on.
It doesn't help when the idiots on the radio keep telling people to treat those as a four way stop. :dis:
If Ike drifts west like forecasters predict now, we should have a game here in BR on Sat. There are still traffic lights out on Stanford and College. Surely they would get a few traffic directors on Sat if they are still out. If not, there could be some congestion in these areas.
I've been listening to WJBO almost non-stop since last week and based on all the callers, reporters, officials, etc. Tiger Stadium sounds like it will be ready for Saturday. There has been some conflicting information and it sure would be great if one our posters could give us a first hand observation with whats going on at TS right now. Joe Alleva said today that "Tiger Stadium is ready to go". However, yesterday Herb Vincent said "We’re pretty sure now that Tiger Stadium can be ready, but we’ll know more about that in the next day or so." There have been a couple callers say they saw a ton of work going on at TS today. They made it sound like Tiger Stadium was not ready despite Alleva's comments. Other reports also note the large number of work trucks around TS today. It sounds like Baton Rouge itself may not be perfect but at least good enough to host the game.
Well, it took me 45 minutes to get one mile off campus after work. Speaking with co-workers who were taking different routes off campus, it was as bad and even worse for them. I can't believe the campus is open already. There are barely any working traffic lights on the main roads out of campus. Finding lunch today was impossible.
Which is exactly why I posted this last friday In my opinion, Martin is hindering the work progress by putting so much stress on the road ways and infrastructure when BR needs to have uninhibited access for repair crews to get around. The traffic reports from WJBO all day sounded like they were talking about the Los Angeles freeway during rush hour. I bet class attendance was at an all time low. Almost all power directly to the north and east of campus is still out. I hope starting school like this hasn't compromised BR's ability to prepare for the game Saturday.
School could not have afforded to lose any more classes. For some reason, LSU did not prepare for hurricane days. They put their precious Wintersession two days after finals and cannot extend the school year (read: $$$$$$$$). Students have already lost fall break and professors have been told that if they need to, they can have a class on a Saturday or two. If we lost another week because of traffic (or, knock on wood, Ike), who knows what we would have had to do.
