Actually pretty close as far as quality ones being played both day and night but our worse teams of all are at night and not televised. Top 25, at the time, opponents we've played on ESPN: 2000 - Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Miss State 2001 - Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn 2002 - Alabama, Florida 2003 - Auburn 2004 - Florida 2005 - Tennessee, Arizona State, Auburn, Miami 2006 - none 2007 - Va Tech, Auburn 2008 - Auburn CBS: 2000 - Florida 2001 - Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee 2002 - none 2003 - Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss 2004 - Auburn, Georgia 2005 - Florida, Alabama 2006 - Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas 2007 - South Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky 2008 - Florida, Georgia 21 to 17 in favor of CBS...not overwhelming. We play our "lesser" opponents at night in Tiger Stadium and that's because most of those are non-tv games. That shouldn't be confused with ESPN games.
Was the Florida game last year not on CBS? Wait, it had to be, because that's when Verne Lundquist gave his "ONIONS!" quote about CLM.
Only back to '97. I couldn't find definite kick-off times farther back than that. I looked at each home conference game and kickoff time. Checked the records of each opponent for that year. Then what our record was in those games. I only did it for conference home games. It makes for a better comparison (apples to apples type thing). Wasn't a massive difference, but our night games were against teams with better records than our day games. And our record at night was better than our record during the day. '97-'07 (20 games with 5pm or earlier start) opponents records 133-109 (.550) LSU record in these games 13-7 (.650) '97-'07 (24 games 6pm or later start) opponents record 171-120 (.588) LSU record in these games 17-7 (.708) I have it broken down by year somewhere on this dma computer. give me time, and I'll find it. yep, CBS does 1 primetime game a year now. Us and Florida the last 2 years.
Broken down by season and opponent From '97-'01 '97 Day Ole miss (8-4) Arky (4-7) '97 Night Florida (10-2) Auburn (10-3) toughest = night '98 Day Bama (7-5) '98 Night Georgia (9-3) Kentucky (7-5) Mississppi St. (8-5) was a 5pm start. Not sure which to put it under. toughest = Night (possible push if MSU falls under day category) '99 Day Auburn (5-6) Florida (9-4) Arkansas (8-4) '99 Night Ole Miss (8-4) Toughest = Day '00 Day Bama (3-8) '00 Night Tenn (8-4) Kentucky (2-9) Miss St. (8-4) Toughest = Night '01 Day Florida (10-2) Arky (7-5) '01 Night Ole Miss (7-4) Auburn (7-5) Toughest = Day '02 Day Mississippi State (3-9) '02 Night So. Carolina (5-7) Bama (10-3) Ole Miss (7-6) Tougher games = Night Games '03 Day UGA (11-3) Florida (8-5) Arky (9-4) '03 Night Auburn (8-5) Tougher games = Day games '04 Day Miss St (3-8) '04 Night Vandy (5-6) Bama (6-6) Ole Miss (4-7) Tougher games = night (dam our home schedule sucks in even years) '05 Day Florida (9-3) Arky (4-7) '05 Night Auburn (9-3) Tennessee (5-6) Tougher games = Pretty much a push '06 Day Miss. St. (3-9) '06 Night Kentucky (8-5) Bama (6-7) Ole Miss (4-8) Tougher games = Night '07 Day So Carolina (6-6) Arky (8-5) '07 Night Florida (9-4) Auburn (9-4) Tougher games = Night
So really, what is the deal with Death Valley and opposing kickers? http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2008/oct/23/georgia-kicker-walsh-looks-break-lsu-hex/ I thinks it's the perfect combination of purple and gold. And VooDoo.
What? You mean Richt isn't going to be doing a "black out" for this game and sporting designer sunshades on the sidelines?
LSU's strongest point of their game this weekend will be their defensive line. It is the biggest defensive line I have ever seen and I don't believe our freshman offensive line will be able to handle them.
