they are good stats. and there must be a lot of players, but just because you get 9 rebounds a game doesnt mean youre dennis rodman. heck magnum is #51 in offensive rebounding (much weaker on def.) you put any decent 6'8 post player in a game for 38 min with a D that forces opponents to shoot under 40% and he'll get 9--especially if there's no other post player to do it. but all this has little to do with how good the team would be without glen. his skills are different from those of most of the team. perhaps thats why the team looked so good when glen was out last night. perhaps it was just matchups or a one time deal. i dont know, but i thought it was interesting.
it is hardly ludicrous to suggest that there may be times against certain opponents that any team (in any sport) may not be better served by playing personnel other than the normal starting personnel. glen is still close to 300 (He's put on some weight since the opener. I wouldn't doubt if he's 310 again) and he can't run up and down with the memphises and uconns of the world. brady himself said that tack didn't play against samford because "it was too deliberate of a game" . why would using glen davis in a similar fashion be out of the question? does baby want to win games or just log his 20/10 and call it a night? handling these types of situations is why we have coaching staffs. otherwise, lsu and uconn could play out at alaska st. with carl the cat reffing and tirk doing the broadcast over a pirated frequency.
Hmmm... Let me say that I haven't seen a lot of LSU basketball games because they haven't been televised where I live. I saw the Texas, Washington and UConn games and will watch as many as I can. Having said that your assumption would be correct provided you have an experienced team where everyone knows their roles and have scoring and rebounding options other than Davis. Most of the games I've seen Glen Davis is the one taking the big shot when the other team is on a run. First of all they have to play better defense if you look at the Texas and Washington games. This team right now has only one consistant thing going for them on the court, Glen Davis. Tack was injured last year then you have the new players that are trying to find thier role on the team. I would suggest unfortunately that the UConn game was an exception to the rule because they have a "young" team that had only played one other road game at WV where they lost just as badly. I don't totally believe in the young theory but there are exceptions to the rule, this is one being that they have little experience playing together. Now if you want to say that Glen Davis is overweight and can't run with the teams then I was partially right when I questioned Brady for recruiting a kid that was about 350 lbs. I think he was around there when he was recruited? My first question was, How is he going to run up and down the court in a fast paced game? I apologized for doing that because for the most part Big Baby has proven me wrong. I didn't think Brady was the right guy for a long time but now I think I could've been wrong. I admit that I was wrong but I just wish he could recruit guards like he can big men. We always seem to lack good guard play or short there from time to time.
it's nearly 100% about recruiting in a sport which emphasizes individual skill. boeheim is an excellent coach who won nothing until he got a lottery pick to come to school for 1 year. said lottery pick was leading the NBA in scoring this year before his suspension.
