hopefully last night was just a bad shooting night and wont continue. so far, this team has been good from 3--36%--but thatll likely go down with the tougher sec games. last year was relatively bad, but 05 was similar to this year (and over the whole year). i'll look for the #s from the ctIII teams.

i think itll get much better with martin and therefore with the tigers overall.

    3 pt fg %

    '01---35.7
    '02---36.4
    '03---37.7

that's pretty good. those teams had several good 3 pt shooters. bright, ctIII, hudson, dupree, dmitch, tack (no kidding, shot 33.7% as fr.).

why do we have the strong understanding that cjb's teams cant shoot from outside? tack's regression, mr whipple, having to start CTIII's skinny younger brother last year?

I know, it's all in good fun :) . I'm the eternal hoops optimist. I suppose it's from years of Brady (most of the time) surprising as the season went a long...

But, clearly, everyone's stated the obvious. LSU didn't shoot well against 'Bama. As Gumborue points out, the stats for LSU's outside shooting have not always been "bad"--generally mid 30s% are ok, and high 30s are good, and low 40s is probably top of the nation. And, right now currently, including the 'Bama game, we're right at 36.4%--up from last year. We shot in the 20s vs. 'Bama, so is it fair to say it was an "off night." Probably critical fans will look for something wrong there, but likely, we'll see the Tigers bounce back and shoot better. Now, you can say that they're "streaky" but that's the way basketball is sometimes.

If you go back and look at summer work and all that, you WILL see that Temple's and Mitchell's 3 pt %s are up--in fact, if you look at the stats, primary shooters, Mason, Martin, Mitchell and BIG BABY, are all shooting better than 39% from three land (at the PG position, Temple is only at 30% and Tack is at 26%--so maybe it's ok that Big Baby take some threes?). So, there's improvement. Mason who came in as a low 30s% at Marquette is shooting at 39.1%, and Martin's % is still at a crazy 47%.

So, I think first, the sky's not falling with our "inability" to shoot. I think Brady acknowledged that he needs to find a way to better get "comfortable" shots for those outside of Big Baby and Tas'. I saw Terry Martin rush about half of his shots, and some he took were open that he usually would hit. Mason took a few balls to the goal and didn't get calls, but I think some emphasis on finishing on the break or going hard to the goal so you know you get the foul may be something Brady works on. I'll continue to say, offensive "aggression" is part of it... would have liked to see us shoot more free throws (but there, chalk up some home court advantage) and drive to the hoop. I think something in the back of Temple's, Mitchell's, Mason's and Martin's minds may be the fact that they want to "prove" folks wrong about LSU not being a good three point shooting team, so they're launching shots--they could very well drive to the basketball to put more pressure on the defenses.

:geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. PACK THE PMAC.

TGer, even though I get on you frequently, you need to know I value your 1) passion for LSU hoops and 2) informational posts above everyone else on this board.

Every fan base does this. You have a good year in football (and ours bad) and a suprisingly (yeah, there was big talk before the season for this LSU bunch) bad season so far in hoops and for every positive thing we say about our own team--even as simple as a "Roll Tide", you turn the tables back to football.

Some people enjoy basketball more than football. Doesn't really bother them.

Here's you something to think about though...What a story it would make for Saban to beat his former team in his first year. Dont you think? The "Vanilla Offense" era is over and you know that the defense will always be there. 3-9 is not realistic. I'm not one of those fans that think he's going to turn it around and win it all in his first season...but it is going to be turned around simply for his recruiting ability. Also, you guys cant argue that he's not a good coach. I'd say 9-3 for next year. Lots of good home games--plus you guys gotta come here...Think it will be loud???

He is a good coach, but Bama is still hurting from sanctions and has zero offense. It will take Saban time, I don't see 9-3 for the bummers yet.

I wasn't putting down L.S.U. I am definitely not denying that you guys had a great football team this year.. You all were amazing but I do think that Bama will be back in the picture next year.
