I guess that Florida win was less LSU and more Florida. Maybe we can run the SEC tourney. Lost faith tonight, though. Actually... regained my lost faith.

BB is really crazy this year. After blowing out Florida, I thought LSU had jelled and would win easily tonight.

i think it can be expected. You see it all the time in sports where a team loses a key player and a backup qb or whatever comes in and wins the next couple of games because everyone plays harder to adjust for the loss.

then after a few games the loss takes its toll.

add to that a big upset the game before and a loss usually results the following game.

did this game matter for anything though? at this point all that matters is winning the sec tournament, or thats the way i see it.

Definitely not a particularly good showing.

What's interesting here is AU's a smaller team and we outrebound them. But, we have no fast break points and we turn the ball over more. No bench points to speak of on our side and all of our starters are playing like 35+ minutes.

So, there's little depth on our squad, and AU's beating us with less talented, but overall quicker, deeper team. It's easy to point to the fact that in the personnel department we have some shortcomings (we do not match up well with perimeter driven teams with alot of quickness), but this one was winnable considering we just proved we could beat Florida. Ouch.

This game probably mattered for little more than pride. You guys have been saying the only way we make the NCAAs is if we win the SEC tourney. Tirk is probably right. It's just that after our play tonight and for the majority of the season you really wonder if we can win the tourney. And by wonder, I mean doubt.

You may be right. But, I was hoping to see some more fire from the guys. You also have to look at every game from this point as learning experience. Yes, the season's practically over, but we've got some young guys who will benefit from SEC play where they get real minutes where they learn the meaning of loss. Let's remember that teams like Auburn and Ole Miss haven't been to post season play in eons, and our young guys haven't felt that loss. So, I look at these games all as part of a rebuilding effort.

In that sense, tonight worries me a little. After inspired play, we play so so on defense, and as far as I could tell, didn't take care of the ball. There was passion from Tas' tonight, but very few other folks really stepped up. Not having seen the game, Temple appeared to have his TOs under control and scored some points, Terry Martin shot alright of a %, Rolle played ok, but just nothing spectacular from any of these guys. On the other side of the ball, Auburn rotated a lot of guys and they all contributed and won with a total team effort.

You look at a situation where some of these LSU players have GOT to learn how to step up. Is it going to be Martin? Temple? Rolle? Next year you have Randolph joining the fray... so you have Baby, Randolph and Tas' all serious players. But, to balance that, you've got Temple, who can play point, but then seems to really settle you into a slower more deliberate offense, or ... Voogd, who (hate to be harsh) at this point is a practice player. Martin is a scoring guard who turns the ball over quite a bit and doesn't always play d or involve his teammates as much as he could.

Marcus Thornton, if he's an answer, will be used ALOT if he can handle and pick up the pace without turning the ball over. I can see now why I read somewhere that we're recruiting him to play point. If at 6'3" he can play the point, give you some scoring and penetration and bring the ball up without dribbling it off his foot, and Garrett can play his more natural 2, then you've got something. Otherwise, you've got Garrett at point, Thornton and Martin taking turns at SG, and we're relying on Garrett improving in the offseason.

    :geauxtige :bball: :nope: :(
