We sent fewer blitzes than we did against UT, we played straight up more. The DL was able to get pressure on the QB because of the out manned OL of MSU. Our offensive gameplan had more medium range pass attempts, and the WRs were more effective in getting open and catching the ball.

The D executed well, even though we outmanned them, it was clear we had a better grasp of the assigments, and we had better grasp in the UT game than the ASU game - it seems we're making progress in responsibility recognition. We blew a few coverages, but otherwise we were right on and we tackled well...taht stuff is not affected by athletic ability.

ST is very very good, David banged one off the goal post, but otherwise it was pretty much flawless...just we were near flawless in ASU and UT. It's clear PEveto is a stud teacher, the kids are technically sound.

    Defense -

Gave a big play at the start, which I thought Pelini's defense wasn't supposed to give up those big palys?
Bo kept the blitzes coming in the 2nd half even with the big lead, so we see he did learn something from the UT game. That's good. Even rushing 4 or 5 the DL was getting pressure on Connor, but rushing 4 against Bama and Florida will not get the same results.

LSU won due to better talent and speed on the DL line and keeping pressure on Connor. The defense looks improved but again this is MSU who is suffering on the talent level. This was a confident building game for the defense and lets hope Pelini does his homework and comes up with a good scheme to beat Florida.

    Offense -
With exceptiong to the reverse by Early, it was conservative play calling. I'm not impressed with the play calling still and the variety in the play calling. We need to try a deep ball 2 time a half to keep the safety and db's honest and scared. Also, every time Hester comes in the game it is almost always going to him. It is a dead give away. The play variety stinks.

There needs to be passing plays where JR takes a quick 3 steps and hits the WR in a screen or quick out, or hook and let the speed of the WR's get the big yards. Our WR's are great, fast, and physical. 3 steps and pop'em and let them run. JR's weakness is still hanging on to the ball too long and taking too long to decide who to throw too. He had good accuracy but gets in a rut of standing there too long. That is why we need a 3 step drop. Many teams will play 8-10 yards off or WR's which is prime for the picking. Do to them what teams have done to us all year with the 3 step drop.

Still very play action passes. Need more of those.

    Standouts in the game -
Addai was spectacular and is a horse. That dude is a stud.
Early Doucet - fast and physical receiver. Get him the ball.
Skyler - Hard to touch and I'm glad he got some touches. Great on returns and should be utilized plenty on offense.

You're about as upbeat as a massive coronary. D plays well and it's because the opposition sucks? If you're trying to be optimistic and upbeat then you should say that the team showed great improvement yesterday and hopefully they will continue to get better.

Bama beat an overrated Florida team and suddenly everyone has them in the SECCG. So, apparently you are optimistic and upbeat about them. You are just a typical whiny assed immature crybaby fan. And, that's a fact...Jack!

Agreed. 20-23 is a terrible percentage. I can't believe he threw 3 incompletions and still expects to remain compettive in the SEC. Good call, man. Flynn looked worlds better in very limited reps.

i said nothing about flynn or not being competitive in the sec.

you cant just look at the stats. especially against a team like msu.

i have high expectations of a qb with experience, "talent", a helluva OL, and talented skill players. a decent high school qb would be expected to have made the same passes jr did. i give him credit for making those passes, but not much because there was little pressure and those receivers were wide open. my concern is that he doesnt seem to be able to make a progression from primary receivers when they are covered. thats why he held the ball forever on about 5 plays. he must learn to move to the 2nd and 3rd option to beat great teams or just throw it away to beat good teams. bama and auburn will knock him silly and likely cause fumbles/ints because of this.

btw, i do think jr should still start, but ive seen little development in his game, which should be a big concern for all tiger fans.

You sound like you'd be happier if his comp. % was lower and he made the 'adjustments' that didn't need to be made in the first place. In no way, did he look 'bad.' Little pressure and wide open...certainly didn't have anything to do with the line and/WR's, right?

you're right-"bad" is too stong. i just saw little that was encouraging.

and, again, you're right. i would have preferred lower completion % and better decisions when primary wr was covered.

At the game we were watching Miles chew out the refs about that pass interference calls. Collectively we figured he should shut up and move ona nd focus on the next play. Then unbelievably the refs corrected the call and waived off the flag. Great job by Les!
