I think at least one win in the SEC tourney is a must...possibly 2. Unless of course we win the thing. Then it's cake.

A 10 seed? Maybe if we win the SEC tourney.

It's not out of the question. If we get in it will probably be around an 11 seed. Anything lower than that is usually reserved for mid-majors.

Lo and behold, Bama's JaMychal Green will be back for tomorrow's game with Miss St. Tony Mitchell, however, who knows IF he'll be back.

Alabama Crimson Tide's JaMychal Green to return vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs - ESPN

Hard to say who we want here. Do we want Bama to lose, so there's less of a log jam for the 4th spot in the SEC? But, does that Miss St win help them in the RPI? Do we want Miss St to lose to assure ourselves that one of these two teams drops below LSU in the RPI? Oh, the endless possibilities! :sob:

Even SEC hater Lunardi of ESPN senses the trend... in his latest Bracketology, he has 'Bama as a 11 seed and Miss St as a 10 seed--both trending down.

C'mon Lunardi... give LSU some love. I mean ...

If nothing else it will be exciting to see where the chips fall once all the dust settles. Still loving this team and the progress they have shown this year.....good time to be a Tiger!

That was horrible, to be a very important game we didn't even show up. Mmm, where have I heard that before? Darn it, darn lt, come on Tigers at least show up!

Time to pick ourselves off the floor...

Ok, I had to give the Tigers the proverbial "period of mourning" yesterday. I really couldn't even post given not just the loss, but the beat down. Couldn't watch the game on the internet but I could have only imagined becoming too irritated to watch. But, to find out that Trent got ejected, the refs were horrible, and maybe there was just more to it. Bottomline, this team wasn't ready to play, and Ole Miss had a little bit of revenge on their mind given the beat down they got in Tigertown. To say it happens, would be cliche... but didn't LSU lose to Appalachian St as well? Women lose to GA? Just a bad sports weekend for the purple and gold.

So, where does that leave us? I'm not going to give up hope just yet. Why? Looking at the RPI, the beauty of playing "tough" competition sometimes is just how the RPI works. Losing to good teams on the road, is expected. We dropped maybe a couple of points, and that's it.

    RPI for 2012-02-27 - College Basketball - StatSheet.com

Same can be said by recent pal of LSU on ESPN, Andy Katz... Conference Power Rankings: SEC - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN

That said, obviously, this hurts our chances at a NCAA bid, at this time. A road win against a top RPI 100 would have helped more than a loss would have hurt. BUT, all is not lost for something positive. Whether it's a NIT bid or some magical run in the SECT. We have no time to rest. In fact, Tennessee jumped some spots over the weekend, and now sit in the 80s, as a top RPI 100 team. If nothing else, Tiger fans need to get out when Tennessee comes to town this Wednesday. This becomes just another critical game to test the Tigers, against another school with a new coach having his kids playing tough defense. It's a chance to get to 18 wins, a chance to thank some thankless perhaps underappreciated, but crucial players in Bass, Warren and White on Senior night, and keep hope alive. Kudos to these guys for choosing to come LSU, when perhaps there was little to go on, a new coach from the Pac10 and a lot of questions.

As mentioned earlier, there's still light at the end of the tunnel in bubble watch land. Two more wins leaves us with a chance for 9-7 in the SEC. Tennessee, who we are tied with, still has to play us and Vanderbilt. As we watch Miss St, Ole Miss and Tennessee, there is still a lot of ball to play, and we have a chance to have a winning record in the SEC.
Miss St who at 6-8, has to win their last two to even get to .500 would probably have to show something in the tourney. Anything can still happen in the tournament... as LSU and Miss St may find themselves on opposite brackets of the SECT playing for their lives.

Who thought when the season began that a 18 or 19 regular season was possible? I certainly thought it was possible, but it's always nicer when you sit on that possibility, with a few games to go. [Go to my thread: "Hoops Post-Mortem (Part 2 of 2): What’s coming and What to hope for." for the what we could hope for outlook.]

Despite the let down this weekend, many of our collective goals can still be reached. One game at a time.

Bring the fire back, Tigers, and bring the magic back to PMAC, fans!

I may, against my better judgement, check out the game Weds. I have to work at 230AM and the kids have school the next morning but I've done worse things on a work/school night.
