4-star QB Rickie Collins decommits from Purdue https://www.on3.com/news/4-star-qb-rickie-collins-decommits-from-purdue
So I was just playing around with the 247 class calculator, as I like to do, and if we only add the guys that we are 100% predicted to sign, along with everyone currently on board, that puts us at 24 signees with a total of 287.33 points. For reference, here are our top 5 classes of all time: 1) 2014 - 299.29 2) 2020 - 298.62 3) 2021 - 295.47 4) 2016 - 295.03 5) 2009 - 293.15 We have only broken 290 points those 5 times. I'm not sure where 287ish points would rank all time, but it would be within striking distance of top 5. The 7 players that I added are Shelton Sampson, Zalance Heard, DJ Chester, Kylin Jackson, Rickie Collins, Khai Prean, and Parker Jenkins. 5 of those 7 are Louisiana kids, too. Adding a player like #10 overall Nyckoles Harbor would put us at 294.67. Reports are that we are in pretty good shape with him. Entertainment purposes only! Still a long way to go to December...
247 Recruiting director Steve Wiltfong says LSU is the team to beat for #35 player in the country Javien Toviano. Start of LSU segment is at 2:00, Javien Toviano discussion (followed by Nyckoles Harbor) starts at about 8 minutes: Adding Toviano to the players listed before would put us at 293.48 without Harbor, and 300.23 with.
I haven’t really payed a ton of attention until now, but I just watched some Shelton Sampson highlights and holy moly. He looks incredible. Runs great routes, high points the ball, has elite speed. This kid is special.
Some big commitments coming up over the next week: Rickie Collins - tonight (August 10th), 8pm EDT Kylin Jackson - Saturday, August 13th, 1pm EDT Jordan Matthews - Monday, August 15th, 3pm EDT I don't think we are in it for Jordan Matthews, but who knows. With our recent momentum and hopefully his Woodlawn teammate Rickie Collin's commitment coming earlier in the week, maybe he'll surprise us. edit - Confirmed those are eastern times.
(Updated 11/3) This class is rounding out as well as any of our past classes have in recent memory. Truth is we have made the investments in critical infrastructure so that our facilities are second to none. We have also been fortunate to have had great recruiters since Saban showed up. That said, Brian Kelly and staff have been very calculating with their takes thus far and are addressing real needs. In years past I often felt like we were taking highly ranked players but not necessarily addressing all of our team needs. Kelly is more like Saban in his approach and I look for him to really kick things into gear next year once Louisiana coaches have had a better chance to get to know him. Committments to Date: (ratings from On3) 5 star WR Shelton Sampson 5 star OT Zalance Heard 4 star WR Jalen Brown 4 star DE Dashawn Womack 4 star DE Joshua Mickens 4 star DE/TE Jaxon Howard 4 star CB Daylen Austin 4 star RB Kaleb Jackson 4 star TE Mac Markway 4 star DL Darron Reed 4 star OT Tyree Adams 4 star S Ryan Yates 4 star RB Trey Holly 4 star S Michael Daugherty 4 star QB Rickie Collins 4 star S Kylin Jackson 4 star OL DJ Chester 4 star ATH Khai Prean 3 star WR Kyle Parker 3 star OT Paul Mubenga 3 star LB Whit Weeks 3 star CB Jeremiah Hughes 3 star S Ashton Stamps Likely Commits: 3 star WR Daniel Smith 3 star DL Tyler Bailey 3 star DL Jameian Buxton 4 star CB Bravion Rogers 5 star ATH Nyckoles Harbor I realize there are 28 names here so I am guessing three of these will not make it in or maybe Kelly and Staff have room and I just don't know it. I am no insider, I got this from On3 but I do follow recruiting closely.
Not sure but I "think" they did away with that 25 signee thing and we can take more now. Not 100% but think that is how it goes
