I did not realize Bell had grade issues which may actually explain some things. The staff took a strong approach last year with the recruits they targeted with issues and it rubbed some the wrong way like Sentimore. We told him an offer would come once we felt better about his current standing to help encourage him to do better and he took it as a negative because other schools did not seem to care. We were in the position to care since he was an in-state athlete and could take that risk. Which paid off in the end with Montgomery coming on board. Bell mentioned a few times that he wasn't getting the love he once was from the LSU staff. Maybe this had something to do with why he felt a little slighted. And since he did get a commitable offer from LSU early that points to a poor ACT score after the fact. Tahj Jones was a recruit that looked bleak from the get go. Miles held a spot for him in the beginning but after seeing where he stood this time last year we did not extend a commitable offer. He was told to get his grades up and he did and the rest is history.
Davenport is not out of the woods yet. He received a 15 on his ACT and is taking it again on Saturday. He needs a 17 with his current GPA of 2.6 but he could get by with a 16 depending on how his final grades shake out. This time around he has taken prep courses to prepare. BTW, he is now 100 healed from his torn meniscus. During his rehab shot up to 350 pounds. After getting a workout plan from Moffit he is already down to 309.
Thankfully a 2 point increase won't get him flagged.. and it's actually extremely common. I hope Davenport gets a good nights sleep before the exam.. that should give him 2 points by itself.
If he took a course to actually learn HOW to take the test, he should do much better. Half the battle with standardized tests is knowing how to take them.
