not sure what years the #s are for. i think they are usually 6 yrs behind, so then these have nothing to do with clm.

"The study measured graduation percentages from students entering from 1998-2001 that graduated within six years.

Student-athletes transferring to different schools or leaving early to play professionally can cause GSRs to drop."

Sorry, no one can predict the Clearinghouse so I can't trust you on that. We do not have the best history with them either.

Correspondence classes almost always seem to be a problem because the system comes across unrecognized classes that are not updated in their system files. This happened with Pratt and many others over the years.

Loston and the other prospects can do everything they need to do, turn in everything early, and still have timely issues with Clearinghouse.

Don't even get me started on the missing paper work either. Then those issues turn into who did not turn everything in. HS coaches, counselors, LSU administrators, etc... scramble to find the missing pieces.

Correspondence courses are incredibly easy to do from what I've heard. He can literally finish them within a couple weeks of getting them and then taking the tests in front of his counselor. So, if he was, say done now, and they couldn't clear him by then, something is wrong with them. I believe each course is worth around a half credit? So, its a question of how many hes doing. Faster he gets them done, the better.

Difficulty of the courses is no the issue and he should have them turned in early. If the Clearinghouse has not updated the system, there could be delays.

Not saying Loston will be flagged but if this summer is the same as the past 5 we will have at least one of the 2009 recruits facing clearinghouse issues to resolve in order to get all the kids on the field for Fall practice. I am not talking mistakes or failures by the recruits themselves but the people responsible for giving all the information to the clearinghouse and the clearinghouse themselves.

Tahj could get flagged for just the increase in his GPA over the last year alone. And if any of the recruits increases their ACT by 6 points or more that is a flag as well, like Patrick Petterson.

Luckily, LSU has had many small problems in the past and none that have lasted to far into Fall practice.

:geaux: In Loston's case, and maybe others, wouldn't it just be easier to ensure that the correspondence courses he does are those that are already accepted by the Clearinghouse? Is that possible or reasonable thing to do? I can only assume that LSU knows the courses and curriculum that the Clearinghouse will accept/not accept. They would also know what type courses Loston or anyone else would need and advise them on which ones they need to take to get qualified and avoid problems as much as possible. I'm sure they're (LSU) is doing a lot of that already. I can only assume the big problems come in when it's left up to the High Schools who may not have a clue as to what the Clearinghouse will or will not accept. I really have no idea how that all works. Bhelm, can you clue me in a little bit more on this? Would also appreciate input from anyone else who might have some insight on this issue. Thanks in advance. :LSU231:

Precautions are used by the LSU staff to help make things go as smooth as possible but the amount of work they can do is limited and most of the issues are left in the hands of the recruit and his HS administration. As in most courses in HS or correspondence classes, they change each semester. This means recruits are required to take the most up-to-date courses which the Clearinghouse is often slow in updating in the system because there are so many varieties of the curriculum in each state and each state requires different variations of the courses to graduate.

Thus, the Clearinghouse often receives completed transcripts with unidentified courses and they have to manually insert the updates to the system to recognize the updated courses. This means delays as in the case with Pratt. In Pratts case it took 2 and a half weeks to sort out the bugs. Depending on when the Clearinghouse gets to a certain recruits file this could be significant. Could equal lost practice time with the team until things are sorted out.

My whole point in discussing these matters is to show that no matter how much the LSU staff helps prevent these instances along with the precautions used by the recruit and his HS administration, the Clearinghouse have there own issues in these matters that have nothing to do with how well prepared the recruit is. Documents will be lost, transcripts will be turned in with missing parts or needed clarifications, etc...

That is why one can not assume any recruit will go through the process smoothly. All a recruit can do is hope they can finish everything up as early as possible and get it turned in to leave enough time for any errors that need to be corrected.

:geaux: Thanks for the info Bhelm, 'preciate it.:) Sounds like it's just a real crap-shoot when it comes to the Clearinghouse.:dis: No consistancy at all! Guess the best course is just to make sure all your ducks are in a row before you get to college and avoid the Clearinghouse all together, if possble. Thanks again Bhelm. :LSU231:

Over on Tidefans they are worried that 7 or 8 incoming freshman won't be eligible.
