If you separate the search part from the actual hire I'm not sure it's that ho hum. Its not the sexy hire, but it's a meat and potatoes hire. Jimbo wasn't coming and Herman wanted Texas. Anyone else was going to be viewed as second tier and please no one mention John Gruden or Tom Landry. O looks like he was the best available and a possible quality hire. There were no home run candidates available to LSU at this time. If O can build some momentum heading into the off season with good coaching hires and recruiting we could start off next season the way most thought this one would go. Install a real offense, an off season with a real OC to develop Etling and his WRs plus another off season for Aranda to work on his D. That could bring much team improvement. I'm going to be the first to go out on a limb and predict that our special teams will be greatly improved no matter who is hired as special teams coach. We're going to come out throwing to the TE and RBs we already know. Etling finished strong and several big young WRs showed development late in the season. LB, OL and DL recruiting and development was needed no matter who the hire was going to be. So was QB coaching and development. If O makes the right hires around him anything is possible.

Haven't really thought about Sanders and other than his resume don't know much about him. Co OC and with Jimbo controlling the O I'm not sure how much he is involved.

He knows the SEC pretty well, and I heard (from an FSU alum) he is great with QB's.

Why not Vince Lombardi? Bill Walsh? Knute Rockne?

We're talking about the football field here. I've no interest in what he does in his personal life. It's not my business. It's not yours, It's not Saban's. (There's no secret who Lane is seeing right now.)

There's been a few times Saban has had to "reign" Kiffin in on his play calls. I can't see O doing so.

Saban keeps his staff out of the media and when they are interviewed it's not scripted, but they KNOW the drill. O? I don't see that happening.

    Note the wording earlier ... suspicious O won't ...

Sounds like what you said about Kiffin. I sense a lot of hatred here—understandably so as a fan of USC.

Never said you mentioned him. I said I've read ...
