I think that whomever Miles wants for OC...Miles gets. LSU has too much going for it. -A team that lost only a few seniors and NFL draft eligible players. -A team that will be ranked in the top five -A team that is composed of many top ten recruiting classes with a top five class in tow. -A team with a veteran national caliber defense that has stopped some pretty high powered offenses...and will take the pressure to score a lot off the offense. -A team with the top JC quarterback coming in. -A team lead by a head coach who's obviously going to be there for a while. Although there were not a lot of proven head coaching candidates out there, that doesn't seem to be the case with offensive coordinators. LSU and Les Miles can take their time and find the right fit...The recruiting class is basically finished with solidly committed offensive players so there's no need to hurry up and get an OC to keep or sign needed offensive recruits. Take your time if you need to Les...you're in the catbird seat now.
This should be settled today. BG was my 1st thought, but with Miles taking a bit of time I think he will get someone really good. Someone from the Leach coaching tree wouldn't be a bad thing.
:geaux: Read in the Times Picayune this morning that three candidates being considered are Steve Kragthorpe (sp), Todd Monken (Jaguars) and Frank Scelfo (currently at Arizona). What does everybody think about this group? Personally I'd favor Kragthorpe. :LSU231:
The Advocate listed Kragthorpe and Monken this morning, but not Scelfo. Also had Chaney, along with (I was very surprised to see this first name): Cam Cameron, WR coach, Baltimore Ravens, worked with CLM at UM Dan Hawkins, former HC at Colorado and Boise St. Dirk Koetter, OC, Jacksonville Jaguars Steve Logan, RB coach, Tampa Bay Bucs Doug Nussmeier, OC/QB coach, U of Washington (former Saints backup QB)
Where is all of this love for Billy Gonzales coming from? When Florida's offense was good it was because of Meyer and Tebow. Once Tebow left we saw what happened. Gonzales didn't coach Tebow. He was passed up for OC there so he made a lateral move to LSU. I didn't see much improvement with our WRs last year over prior years while he was in that role. What possibly qualifies him for promotion? If we had some prolific offense and the OC left it's one thing to promote the "understudy" if you will but that's clearly not the case here.
Only thing I really know about Kragthorpe is that he had a horrendous record as a Head Coach. Now, that may not say much about his prowess as an OC, but I dunno. Cheney or Hawkins would be good. I wouldn't turn my nose up at Chow either.
:geaux: Here's Dildeaux's list of candidates, FWIW. He's got Jim Chaney, Major Applewhite, Paul Chryst , Kenny Edenfield and Terry Bowden. Terry Bowden?! :rolleye33: The only two on the list that I could see as serious candidates would be Chaney & Chryst. :LSU231: Educated guesses on next offensive coordinator for LSU | thetowntalk.com | The Town Talk
Kragthorpe is know for his QB development,, but he was an outstanding OC at UL. I see people who keep throwing the names of guys who are notorious for their spread offenses. I think you can probably cross them all off the list. We're going to be a Pro-style offense with and emphasis on ball control with a running game. ___________________ Sent from my EVO using Magic
:geaux: This. Les is always going to want a balanced offense set up for ball control where the run opens up the pass. The spread ain't happenin'. :LSU231:
