Obama's Citizenship

    I did Red, but only because I was trying to do a little quick research on the definition of natural born citizen and found it. Seeing as their is no clear definition of the term, anybody have any thoughts on how the courts may interpret it, assuming someone actually took the issue of a lack of definition to the courts.

    14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.​

    Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.​

    All persons born in the United States, except those not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. government (such as children of foreign diplomats) are citizens under the Fourteenth Amendment. Period. End of Story.

    I wasn't referring to citizenship in general Red, I was refering the exact term found in the requirements of being President which is not defined anywhere in the amendments or the Constitution. Yes, the 14th amendment provides guidance to this question but not a definitive answer.

    There is truly a lack of court precedent here on the definition of the term. However, a lack of a legal challenge with legal standing doesn't mean there is a precedent. I do see there is a precedent against private citizens being able to challenge but that doesn't mean some other entity does not have ther right to challenge, say a state govt. (it's total hypothetical but I can always wonder)

    To answer the citizenship questions....there are a number of loop holes and ways around just being born in this country or one of our territories. For instance..An American born mother can give birth to her child in any country and he or she would still be an American citizen as long as the mother was over the age of 19. (obama's mother was not 19)

    The guy who started this, and it isn't the guy who made the youtube video, claims that there are two records in Hawaii, at two different hospitals, for obama. He claims that obama's mother went back to africa with his father, while she was pregnant, and was not allowed to fly back to the US before giving birth to obama. He claims he was told this by obama's family that lives in africa.

    As much as I would love for this to be true, I haven't brought it up because it looks like the law suit will be thrown out. This has been going on for several months.

    The guy who started this investigation is a strong hillary clinton supporter...not some far right wing "wacko" as red would lead you to believe.

    Unless the MSM picks this up, it's irrelevant. If Fox isn't touching it, you can bet CNN and MSNBC aren't even talking about it in editorial sessions.

    Obama is a citizen by virtue of his mother being a citizen.

    It may be subject to definition concerning citizens born outside the USA, but no one challenges that "natural born citizen" means that people born here are citizens by law--under any cirumstances, regardless of whether one or both parents are citizens or not. Obama was born here.

    Well, claims are not facts. He may well know that he won't have to back up these claims with evidence in court because the case will be thrown out. Meanwhile it provides anti-Obama fodder for those who believe anything they read.

    Absolutely unproven allegation. How can he not be? He holds a legal US birth certificate.

    Dual citizenships are permitted under US law. He did NOT lose his US citizenship by gaining Indonesian citizenship, especially since it was done by his parents while he was a minor and he did not renounce his US citizenship.

    Irrelevant. If Obama was born in the United States, he is a natural born citizen, regardless of the citizenship status of his parents. 14th Amendment.

    Hearsay. Unsubstantiated allegations. Where is this "record"? I posted his legal birth certificate.

    No evidence presented. Obama's birth certificate has no listing for hospital.

    Maya wasn't born until 1970. How could she remember and testify to this? Absurd.

    Again, where are ANY documents that prove Obama to be foreign born? Where is this "record" that challenges Obama's birth certificate?

    So far, there is nothing to this story except unsubstantiated allegations.

    red, if you read my original post, I never was questioning Obama's citizenship. I am personally of the opinion that this is a non issue and was merely commenting an issue outside of the current participants of the race. If there were anything to this, the republican party would have long ago challenged the validity of him being on the ballot.
