I predict someone will assassinate that monkey-eared communist bastard. If they'd done it 4 years ago they would've saved us at least 5 trillion. Probably more.
If catching up means a massive deficit ridden single payer system then I'd rather lag behind. All the highly ranked euro-socialist healthcare models are multi-billion dollar deficit programs. It would be much worse here due to population size. Single payer is simply not a viable option here. Top down cost controls do not work. They never have, and they never will. Thesetype of controls cause shortages, like the ones in Europe which is plauged by doctor shortages. Doctors don't make enough money to justify the costs of med school. If you want to find Eurpoe's best and brightest doctors, take a tour of America's hospitals.
Fast, Good, and Cheap. You can have two of the three with anything including healthcare. Right now, we're a country that wants all three and it can't happen.
That is the right-wing mantra, of course. And it is true that America isn't Europe, it would take a different system. But many things can be done better including things that do work elsewhere. The costs of American medical care are huge compared to the rest of the Western world, yet our care is not better. It is worse. Insurance companies and the medical industrial complex rake off huge profits. I buy their stock to try and get some of my money back. But the status quo is bad for America. Have you been in a hospital lately? What you'll find is India's best and brightest doctors. Not Europeans.
I have been outspoken about several foreign policy blunders made by this administration. They have had their share of mistakes and they have been pretty obvious. That said, this continuing insistence that something sinister or conspiratorial is happening in the ME and is largely due to our involvement is absurd. Our involvement in the ME is no different than it's ever been but more light is definitely being shined on it today as opposed to previous administrations. Regarding your last statement about Israel, I would be just fine cutting them loose. IMO, Israel causes us more grief in the ME than anything that we do or say.
I don't think our care is worse. Certainly more expensive but worse? Really? I assume you have something to back this up?
I don't know that Obama is angling for that, Tiga, but rest assured that the far left dems who wanted a single payer system from the outset might be. Everyone forgets that when we see a poll that says that 55% of the population are against the ACA, that roughly 20% of those are far left dems who want a single payer, medicare for all kind of health insurance.
