Then explain how the temperature curves dipped in the 1970s sending all of the political portsiders into a collective tizzy over "THE COMING ICE AGE!!"

one explanation is that the temperature dip would have been much more severe without the extra CO2

So, it's a good thing. Thank you Industrialization for keeping us warm.

I don't imagine that you can document that ALL of the political left joined that "tizzy". Concerning the facts of global warming, it doesn't matter what politicians bloviate about anyway, it is what the scientists publish in professional journals.

Also, you are bright enough to understand what a trend is. Multi-century warming trends don't have to be a steadily rising line. There are peaks and valleys, flattenings and steepenings. There are annual, monthly, and daily variations that swing widely. That still doesn't discredit the fact of a steadily upward trend.

It snowed in Baton Rouge last winter but last month we had the hottest June in 75 years. Neither mean a damn thing when calculating the average annual temperature and even less in determining a long-term trend.

You can't have it both ways, Red. You said the increased CO2 corresponded with a rise in temps which indicated a relationship between human affect and global warming. How can you use current data to declare a steady upward trend. Hell, it can go either way.

You aren't following me. A 4-year dip within a 200 year rising curve does not invalidate a steady warming trend. It just gives you an idea of the scatter of the data.

There are lots of small dips, but there are far more medium-sized rises and a steady warming trend from beginning to end.

Can your scientists predict with any degree of certainty that the curve will continue to trend upward? I don't think they can.

That's a purty graph but in reality, the total temperature change has been from -.03 to about .04 degrees celsius since 1860. In Farenheit terms that's an increase from 31.946 degrees to 32.072 degrees or 0.126 degrees. You will also note that the current trend is downward.

Is this really worth getting all worked up over?

They can until the data starts to shift. What they can't do is draw no conclusions at all about 200 years of data.

No, the trend is upward. Only the last data point is down, and it does not go outside the normal scatter. The trend remains upward.

It's worth taking seriously. It only takes a few degrees to upset the apple cart.

Reducing taxes and holding individuals accountable for their own survival could get rid of the permanent underclass and fuel a new generation of hearty individualists. Reducing death row appeals to one shot, 1 year max and increasing the sentencing for first degree murder could have a significant deterrent effect. This game is fun!

Sure it wasn't 1.5? Or maybe 2.1? I'd like to see a picture of the cave drawings depicting homo sapiens jotting down temps for the record.

Pure arrogance on the part of the authors of this article. There's not a "may" or "it is proposed" or even a "some scientists think" in that statement. Just drop a little guesstimation as fact, and move on quickly. Nothing to see here, boys. :hihi:

We have accurate ice core records going back much further than that.

The truth is hard to face sometimes, amigo. You just have to let it go.
