You hit the nail on the head with that one. I'm one of the moderate white republicans who is likely to vote for him. The best thing, in my humble opinion, that could happen to the current Republican party is for McCain to lose. There are no young, vibrant, exciting Republicans in the spotlight right now, and perhaps the loss of the White House (coupled with losing Congress in the midterm elections) will make the Republicans wake up and get into the 21st century.
Those are just a few of his accomplishments and if you view none of them as being relative, then there is no reason for me to even be in this conversation with you. Which is good for the both of us.
Here we go again with CHARACTER ASSASINATION in politics again. I believe by the end of the day, most of the voters would be voting on the issues although I am concerned that a substantial number of voters (the "Ignoramus")only vote based on how good sounding and good looking a candidate looks on TV, rather than on any real substance or having an understanding of the issues. On one hand I like Obama as a person, but I disagree with him on his stance on certain key issues. I am NOT afraid of voting for a black as a president, as I would have if Colin Powell were running in the previous election. Actually that IS a reality, but not necessarily a major factor.
I am concerned that Obama may lead the country into a downward spiral as his position is too far to the left. I would rather go with a more centrist or moderate candidate.
But is there really one? I cannot wrap my mind around McCain...well, let's be honest. I absolutely don't like him at all, as I've rarely agreed with his positions on anything.
Can't argue with that. I will not vote for McCain. I think the republican leaders know deep down inside that the chances of retaining the WH is slim and none, which is why we got stuck with weak candidates. When Americans get angry, they vote for change. Doesn't mean anything will get better, but it'll be a new cast of characters in D.C.
Not without help from the Dem nominee, IMO. If something new comes out about Obama/Clinton or they somehow screw up, yeah, he has a chance. Without any major screw ups, Obama or Clinton will win the electoral vote in a landslide. Popular vote probably around 57-43. Too much anger towards the republicans to overcome.
What a cop out. If you can't discuss a simple election issue without taking things personally, maybe you shouldn't be in the conversation.
