Current spread: Obama 1369 Clinton 1267 Superdelegates keep switching over to Obama's side, although still in Clinton's favor 236-185, but this use to be an almost 100 vote spread
Man it is really cranking up, the lies about him being a muslim and against the Jewish community and the play on his middle name. It is really sickening to me. I would rather folks be honest with me, Its not like the guy is stupid and doesnt knows what he is doing. If thats the case he wouldnt be a senator. He has done some really good things. But like I said I would rather folks be honest with me, than to spread lies about him. Just be upfront and tell someone like me, you dont want Obama to be the president because he is black and thats probably a good number of folks on TF
makes me wish i had named by kid hitler or osama. i really love to break stereotypes. i wouldnt worry about it. these tricks will only work on the percent of the population that wanted thompson or huck to get the GOP nomination. or for larouche to come back.
It's not his intelligence I question, it is his wisdom. He may be wise, but we can't know it because he hasn't been on the scene very long. We have elected new faces with bright voices before and they sometimes turn out to lack susbstance beyond the rhetoric. McCain is really the only candidate with the kind of track record I like to see in a candidate for President. Obama trails the pack on this issue. Would you list and discuss them here? I'm ready to be impressed. Start with his foreign policy and defense policy accomplishments. Don't be a racist and stereotype people who disagree with you. Do you seriously believe that the ONLY reason someone would vote against Obama is because of his color? I've told you my problem with Obama and its about buying a pig in a poke, not about his race. He's half white anyway, what gives you special claim? Do you think mudslinging only happens to black candidates? Have you forgotten McCain's military record challenged in 2000? And the "swiftboating" of Kerry in 2000? How about the current McCain infidelity rumors? Hillary went to Wellesley, you know, the eastern capital of lesbian feminism. Mudslinging is as old as politics.
Ok so I will list a few of his accomplishments since you havent taken the time out to research them yourself, if you didnt, you dimissed him at face value, not on substance! Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs. the HOPE Act, which increased Pell Grants to $5100, and later joined Senator Kennedy on the Higher Education legislation that passed July 20, by a vote of 78-18. That legislation also included funding for Predominantly Black Colleges to assist with counseling, tutoring and other needs of low income students. It also creates the Teaching Residency Act which will create a school-based teacher preparation program in high needs schools to provide each teacher with a mentor, content instruction, classroom management skills, a master’s degree and state certification, and a 2 year follow-up program. The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act Authored by U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL), the Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction. Signed into Law on January 11, 2007. S.Amdt.390 to H.R.1268 - To provide meal and telephone benefits for members of the Armed Forces who are recuperating from injuries incurred on active duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) today hailed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's passage of the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs. This legislation was introduced in December. Smith and Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) sponsored the House version of the bill (H.R. 1302), which passed the House last September. Also, there are alot of people out there who would not vote for him because he is an african american and if you dont believe that than you are just plain ignoring reality. Because it is out there and you know that as well as I do. Him being half white is not the issue, people view him as black another point that you are well aware of. So McCain is your guy, well let me make a few points about McCain and his floping. First the guy was really non responsive on the pro choice issue. Then he was against the tax cuts of George Bush, now he is all of sudden for them. Also, he was against torcher of any kind, now he says it is necessary in certain situations. The guy doesnt know the first thing about economic policy in my opinion. See I have researched his record and he has done alot of things that I agree with, but you cant ignore his flopping to try to become the conservative candidate that he is not.
Sure, some white people won't vote for him b/c he's black, just like some blacks won't for whitey if a black guy is in the race. Some will or won't vote for Hillary simply because she is a woman. But I think race and gender is being overhyped by the media. It makes for a good news story, but it doesn't mean it's reality. It's clearly not an issue thus far since Obama has won states like Iowa, N. Dakota, Idaho, Nebraska, etc., where the black population is < 5%. And he has a much better chance than Hillary of getting some moderate white republican voters. It looks like Obama's race to lose right now. But the same was said about Hillary 6 months ago.
Ok you have to stop freaking me out, I find myself agreeing with you more and more, maybe I am seeing the light:hihi: But I will concede all of those comments you just made, because they are true. Well said:thumb:
You have no idea of what I've researched. OK, a bill to inhibit the military from discharging soldiers with personality disorders. OK, a domestic social program. OK, an act to reduce military weaponry. That's very sweet. OK, an international social program. Is that it? Perhaps all good stuff, but I think it's light for a Presidential candidate. Where is the foreign policy experience? Where are the economy bills? Where indeed is "change"? I am still undecided, but McCain and Clinton lead my list at present. What the hell do I care about McCain "Flopping" on conservative issues? As a moderate, a republican that bucks the party line is appealing to me. Is he non-responsive on Pro-choice? That is friggin' great by me! I don't think abortion is a Presidential issue and I want a President who really doesn't give a rat's ass one way or another. Does he change his mind on the issues over time? Sure, and I like that too. Mindless adherence to stated policies that fail is a recipe for disaster-- see Bush, George W. It's a campaign. I don't like it much that McCain has had to cater to the right to gain the republican nomination, Ronald Reagan did the same thing. Like Reagan, he runs as a conservative but he will preside as a moderate. McCain has a long track record as a realist, a pragmatist, and a moderate republican. We know that he's a maverick republican and reaches across the aisle for consensus. He gets things done, he's an achiever. Not a hoper or a dreamer.
Another thing regarding the race and gender issue. I try to educate myself from both view points, I dont follow the crowd just because they are beating the drum. People like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton (who cannot to even stomach most of the time) and Louis Farrakhan, perpetuate the stereotypes for my race and minorities. These guys get up and say this and that for causes, but all of them have been apart of shakedowns and some of the most crooked deals that are boderline criminal to begin with. Those people dont speak for me, I speak for myself, I always urge people of my race to find their own voice and dont let guys like these do the talking for you.
