That is about 8 Billion in pork, and if you take it out this bill is still stupidly big. They may as well leave it in. My future great grand kids may be good for it.
I don't know and you don't know either, but it will create some for sure. I'm quite sure there is some waste in this bill somewhere, but the money has to be spent somewhere. Where is your list of how it should be spent? At least it's going to a diversification of interests that affect everyday citizens. It beats the hell out of the previous administration loaning $billions to banks to allow them to lend more . . . yet they haven't done it. Or bailing out Wall Street and mortgage speculators or their own greed. That's nothing if it helps eliminate AIDS in this country. It's a fraction of what it will cost to treat the disease in the future. Nothing? That's ridiculous. In fact, it must certainly stimulate the economy, you just don't like the decisions on where to spend it. Obama is spending a ton on infrastructure, which is not only badly needed, but has short- and long-term benefits. Again, what are your choices for spending it. All to big business? Tax refunds for billionaires?
Great attitude! What's 8 billion between countrymen? Let's throw in another 8 for congressional pay raises while we're at it. They deserve it.
No. Obama has a plan that, if implemented, could either fail or succeed. I'm willing to wait and see. Bush's bailout was implemented and has failed so far. Are the banks lending again or are they sitting on the bailout money? Has it slowed job losses? Did it reinvigorate Wall Street? I'm willing to give it more time, too. But so far, it's not delivering.
unfortunately I am traveling to Vegas today for some meetings, but this is a conversation I would like to have on this board. We have a pretty educated, thoughtful and diverse group on FSA. How would you spend the 8 billion? Better yet, if someone could find a list of all the pork spending in the current bill, lets identify all the pork projects, come up with a total number of projects to cut, then take suggestions from our members as to how differently to spend the combined money. Isn't that was congress did? Lets see how we would spend it differently. For example... Instead of spending $335 million on teaching kids the importance of wearing a condom, I say take 20 proposals and bids from 20 American advertising agencies on an ad campaign to teach kids to wear condoms. Select the best proposal with the best method of reaching the "at risk kids", then spend $20 million on the ad campaign. The ad agency gets $500,000 for administering the campaign for the year, and the other 19.5 million is spent on advertising and print media in the local communities. You still have $315 Million to spend. I say you spend $100 million on autism research (effects 1-150 families) and you spend $100 million on childhood cancer research (donate to a proven charities that will spend the money with American Research Doctors). The other $115 million you give to a charities that specializes in helping underprivileged families dealing with childhood disease. Every penny of the money is only to be spent on travel expenses for those families to be with their kids while being treated (hotels, airfare, food, etc...). That way the $115 million get circulated back through our economy.
Same old over-used, tired argument. It's the mean, evil rich people that are ruining America. :nope: You can sell that on the uneducated welfare recipients but it doesn't work well in here. By the way...Global Warming, etc. IS big business and the Democrats are more than willing to hand billions to their supporters all in the name of saving the Earth. That's BS and is no different than what you claim happens for the oil industry. In fact, the oil industry can probably do more to help the environment that 10,000 Al Gores and a billion carbon credits. This is just another example of hypocrisy.
So, how much time are you going to give Obama, because after only 4 months you have labeled Bush's (Paulsen's actually) plan a failure.
