Nah, I won't be in long enough to go to the War College. Retirement is getting closer and closer, and looking better and better. I'm going to get my ass handed to me for the next 3-4 years, then it'll be time to come back home soon after.
I know exactly what you mean. It might be fun, though. My major professor had been a highly-decorated paratrooper in WWII (DSC) and worked for the DIA in the early 1950's before returning to academia. In the 1960's he taught a seminar at the Army War College on "How to Lie with Maps". I wish I could have heard that one.
Wow, "How to Lie with Maps". Now that has to be interesting. I took a classified course on intelligence for maneuver officers here at Command and General Staff College; pretty interesting, a lot I didn't know. On the other hand, I'm taking a course in insurgency, and it's brutal. Not so much in content, but the instructor interrupts questions and there's no discussion. The good thing about CGSC is we can do different tracks and take classes accordingly, sort of like electives. My track is homeland security and I got level I and II defense support to civil authority certification from it, along with FEMA certification. Not a bad deal and will hopefully help me out post-Army.
