That's good to know it's out there. Sometimes you just never know what's already been reported, you know OPSEC and all that. My XO when I was a company commander is in the regiment and I got the skinny from him; close enough.
i agree. it seems like every snafu that could have arisen was planned for and backed up. i read somewhere today that they had back up teams ready in case the first was taken out, that they had the plan for if element of surprise was lost, had calculated down to the pound how much the specially adapted choppers could carry (i also read there was some sort of roto silencer added that added weight to the aircraft so they planned for exactly how much they could carry out), etc etc. as far as the idea of propaganda, while most of the civilized world will understand obl was the uber hypocrite, gettin his rocks off to "western decadence", most of the muslim world will refuse to believe he was anything other than a most holy man. he would have had to screw a teenage boy while watching goat porn and stoned out of his mind in the town square before any might believe it. even then some would find an excuse not to.
I purport nothing. My conservation with my former XO officially did not exist, nor would I be predisposed to speak of it if, in fact, that conversation did exist.
Nah, I talked to him conversationally. We talk every now and again, same as my former platoon leaders (those still in the Army, anyway). There's things he can't tell me, and I don't expect him to. There's other things he can't say directly, but I can infer. I'll see him this summer, but all the details really don't matter.
Some of the media animations make it look like the chopper crashed on top of the wall, shearing of the tail section which fell outside the wall. It sounds more like the pilot made a controlled crash inside the compound. I suspect the tail section was blown over the wall when they set off the demolition charges.
Nah, I still dont see how the plan was botched... I mean these things happen ALL the time and they have backup plans, which worked, for these types of events. Even with aircraft going down, they were able to get in and out with zero loss of life killing world #1..... We just view it differently...
I'm sure you've heard the military adage, "no plan survives contact with the enemy." The strategists don't plan for things to go wrong, but they understand that they inevitably will, and they prepare accordingly.
