They sit on their cash because they are afraid of Obama and are waiting for the GOP to take over. It's Obama's policies, not greed, that drives this.
Exactly. Afraid. Afraid of another recession since they got caught overextended in the last one. Not because "Obama is killing business". Business is making money. Obama has no control of what cash companies decide to hoard.
Nor do they know what the republicans are going to do. They remember the last time the republicans were in power. People are saving more and businesses are saving more because they were not saving enough in the 2000's. But the record amount of excess cash being held by investor-owned businesses is being called into question. It's making nothing for the company as cash or helping grow the economy. If they are afraid to spend it on new projects, infrastructure and jobs that will grow the business, then it should be distributed to the owners (many 401K and pension funds included) who would spend some of it to get our consumer-driven economy moving.
Everyone (Business people) I talk with tells me the same thing, they want 0bama out. They rather the republicans in office. They do remember when they were in office and want to return to this. Its obamas fault. They want the lesser of the two evils.
