You can't back this up. Most of the working uninsured would like to be insured but they can't because they can't get affordable group rates. I know a couple self-employed people trying to get by with a personal health account because they can't afford the premiums for individual insurance. I know another whose wife has to work a dead-end that she hates just because they can get group insurance there. I have a relative who is a widowed farm wife that has no insurance until she qualifies for Medicare in a few years. They worked hard all their lives and an unexpected heart attack ruined their theretofore comfortable life.

First thing you've gotten right in this entire thread.

Gee, that's too bad. Hopefully Obama can fix it so she won't have to work.:dis:

You completely miss the point again, you surely didn't stay wise very long. :dis:

She'd rather be working at the shop with her husband doing something productive instead of low-wage clerking just to get group insurance. If Obama can fix it so that hard-working individuals can be banded together and get group rates, then that is good for everybody. Productive individuals can afford to keep working at their private business and not have to go work for wages just to get the group benefits. It frees up a wage-earning position for someone now unemployed. And it still pays premiums to the Insurance Companies that you worship.

I don't worship insurance companies, but I do understand how they work.
Certainly Obama could come up with a plan that would do as you say. Why doesn't he?

I'd like to not move around and be able to work from home and have total, hair to toenail coverage for my entire family regardless of existing conditions. But I can't afford that kind of coverage. So, I'm "forced" to work somewhere I'd rather not and move around far more than I'd like.

What's your point, Red? You don't really have one. Everyone I know makes choices of where to live and where to work based on their expectations of what kind of lifestyle they want to live.

I don't have a problem with a reasonable "group" insurance banding. But I have a problem with the government mandating anything to private industry. Having worked for, in and around government organizations my entire life - I want them involved in as little of my personal life as possible. Because they are not good - they will never be good - at what they do. The only exceptions are the military and the law enforcement/intelligence communities - most of the time.

It's part of the plan that you oppose without knowing anything about it.

This is the problem. You want the insurance industry to control American health care instead of The People. You wanted the lending industry to control American finance without any regulations and look what happened.

Republican single-mided fixation on eliminating every tax and eliminating all government regulations is just as bad as the "tax and spend, government takeover" agenda that they accuse the democrats of. The answers lie in neither extreme. Finding the right balance between the two is where the answers lie.

nobody wants to eliminate every tax or regulation, they simply seeks a different balance point than you do. it is not honest to accuse us smaller government types of being no government anarchists.

again, we all want balance. your saying that is stupid and pointless.

Living in a dream world. There is no balance with this congress. You bitched about spending and debt under Bush but never a peep about it increasing even further under Obama. Govt spending has proven to deepen recessions, not end them. Cutting taxes and spending would work, but this congress and this president is not committed to doing that. Not very unlike the last one.

The majority of the stimulus has not been spent, what has been been spent has been shown to not have improved anything. Districts that received no stimulus outgrew those that did. The law specifically stated that money repaid by the banks would be given back to pay down the debt. Now they refuse to give it back - shocker.

There are plenty of ways to reform the health industry but the current bills are power grabs, not reforms, and the american public is smart enough to figure that out. That's why the overwhelming majority does not want it, and the super majority democratic congress could not pass it between both houses. Now Obama and Pelosi think they will ram it down our throats in defiance of the will of the very people that elected them.

And for all politicians that say the "people" don't know what's good for them, but elite politicians do....wow, that sounds a lot like some guys in Russia back in the day.

    Pure hubris.
