I don't get ND... why do they have such high standards for their athletes and such low standards for their priests?

What a bullsh!t comment, Hawker. What are you trying to say with a zinger like that?

People hate ND for nothing more than the mob mentality - it's become popular to hate ND around Baton Rouge over the last 15 years. I know people have disliked them for decades, but the widespread dislike is really lame. Ask people why they hate ND. If they tell you "because they are ND" then they have issues.

Just because the stream is moving doesn't mean you have to jump in.

BB, for the most part it is pretty much jealousy, and I'll be the first admit it. While I don't hate Notre Dame as I just don't get hating any college, I am envious of their position, the Notre Dame Broadcasting Company, the media attention, the money they bring in, etc. I want them to be at the same level as every other school, even though I know it will probably never happen.

And I grew up as somewhat of an Irish fan from watching their games every Sunday morning.

I'll never forget McKiethen's statement about LSU having more catholics than Notre Dame. Had to love a Governor who was so into LSU football.

This thread just goes to show why college football sucks when it comes to post season.

Those who think ND won't get that ranking because they won't be good enough.
I predict they will just to be a thorn in everyones side, just another thing to screw
some other team out of playing for a legit championship!

What pisses me off about ND is how the school honestly still believes it is a college football powerhouse when it isn't even close to being one.

Put in the BigXII, SEC, or ACC....they would be lucky to finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

If they didn't play one of the toughest shedules in college football every single year then I think it would be something to gripe about. They maintain a killer schedule and that makes that TV contract worthwhile to NBC. Hell, put USC in the BigXII, SEC, or ACC and you can make the same argument.

ND is unique. ND is different. It makes sense to just accept it and focus on other things rather than being so small-minded and hating the University of ND. They have not sniffed the promised land since Lou Holtz - but, they have played the best competition in the country.

As for ND acting like a football powerhouse, attitude is a very, very, very powerful thing. I'm sure many Alabama, USC, Nebraska, and Miami fans would say the same thing about LSU - we climbed out of the dumps to look around for a couple of years and some of our fans act like we're a traditional powerhouse...

Quote:ND is unique. ND is different"and on NBC"

This is why everyone or a lot of people including myself hate ND when it comes to college football, I have nothing personal against them other than sports.
I could understand if people hated us if we had our own network and were always on tv when we weren't very good.

I always root against ND with the exception of 2003 when I had to root for them to help us.

So, do navy, army, and the other independents get the same deal?

Army is in CUSA. Only ND and Navy are independents these days. How many BCS like bowls has Navy been to in the last 40 yrs? The Sun Belt conference teams don't get this deal either. Bottom line is that this is a good financial deal for the BCS conferences.

I don't like ND fans because they feel like they are the chosen and believe they deserve somthing more. The tough guy talk is just for fun, how boring would life, football, message boards, this thread be without an opinion that creates conflict. Its just more enjoyable that way.

They get this treatment for no reason other than they are ND. If Bama (or any other school) tried to get a ND like contract from the BCS the rest of the college football world would have a Sh*t Fit. They don't deserve special treatment and the BCS should tell them to get a conference and get on with it.
