No disrespect to you Kiki but I don't think coaches getting that kind of money need a "few years". House is overrated. As far as our secondary, they may be weak but our front 7 is drastically improved talent wise but they are not being used properly. Every week someone is asking why House is wasting his talent on the front end. The best way to help a db is to put pressure on a qb, something we are not even close to doing. These qb have time to order pizza while waiting for a reciever to get open.
No disrespect felt we are just stating opinions. I respectfully disagree. 1 and a half years is not enough. Also I would have to believe neither House nor the DL position coaches and Kelly are not aware of the talent level on the D Line. Hard for me to belive this.
unfortunately in today's game, you don't get very much time when your unit ranks 124th nationally. now if he was somewhere let's just say 50-60 ish in the country and only missing a piece or two, that would be different.
My view is it's more the secondary. QB's are finding guys way too open early in their routes. The shear number of recruited DB's and transfer portal DB's tells me Kelly is seaching for at least one pure lockdown corner and better DB's in general. One lockdown corner would improve our rush. As I have said many times here the dumster fire after O cost us especially at CB. No argument just my thoughts.
3 of the 4 starters back there were either 4 or 5 stars. Denver Harris was a mid season Freshman All-American last year. Duce Chestnut was All-ACC last season. now all of them are terrible. they aren't just not good enough, they are really bad at their jobs. If one guy, maybe 2 regresses, chalk it up to the kid maybe not quite fitting. When an entire unit all regress, it's not the kids. we haven't really tried pressuring the QB. we typically rush 4 or fewer on obvious passing downs. meaning the lack of pressure is basically intentional. if you look at our roster, the front 7 should be the strength of the Defense. but our scheme isn't allowing them to be the focal point. we rush 3, sometimes four, let the QB make a sammich, finish his beer, then decide which wide ass open WR he wants to hit. on the rare occasions we have blitzed or sent 5 or more, we have gotten sacks, we have forced throw aways, and even a few interceptions because the QB is hurrying and making mistakes. same here sir. have a drink on me tonight
Having a satsuma sunset right now. Vodka, soda and a couple of wedges of satsuma juice, and a wedge of lime. My wifes invention. Let's chat more as the season goes. Cheers Meaux
I'm stuck in deserts of west Tejas, so drinking damn Ziegenbock (Texas Amber beer). not bad, but wish I was home drinking Abita.
Given the current state when he took over I would want to agree, but I have seen good coaches do better with less. I hope Kelly is a winner for us, but I question his ability to win in this league with the competition and the class of coaches that come here. It "appears" to me that Marcus Freeman is doing better with his team than he did. He is a good coach I agree, just not sure he would have the number of wins had he spent more of his career in a competitive conference like the SEC. He appears to be lost to me, but that is only my opinion as a fan, I know he understands more football than me. I just compare him to his peers and he looks a step behind. It may be the talent, or coaching, or the young men are just not getting it, but its been a long time since I have seen a LSU defense play this bad at this point in the season. I don't see Les losing to FSU two opening games in a row and I certainly think D coordinators we had in the past would have figured out how to play these guys by now. Just my opinion KiKi and I hope we get it turned around soon because my liver is hurting this year. I'll have to try that invention your drinking.
Kelley last year made out well in the portal when he got Benard-Converse from Okla. St. and Mekhi Garner from U of La Lafayette. He went to the portal again and rolled the dice on Duce & Denver. So far ts been a swing and a miss. And they are being coached by the same guys who coached Garner and Benard-Converse last year. Duce Chestnut did not travel for the Ole Miss game, "Duce is not with our team right now," Kelly said. "We'll make a decision on his status in the next few weeks. Denver Harris is talented but he was basically kicked off the A&M team after multiple suspensions. He got in the out house here @LSU in Aug. for fighting. Kelley hasn’t given up on him but he is a work in progress. He did not play vs Missouri. When asked about Harris, Kelly said the Texas A&M transfer continues to grow and mature. But he gave no indication when he might return to the field. Kikicaca was correct in stating that 1-1/2 years was not enough time to fix the ness that Oeaux created. Our problems in the secondary will not be solved overnight. It will take a couple of years of recruiting 4* & 5* CB who not are head cases.
I'm not even commenting on their off field issues as I have no insight, so won't comment one way or another. but when on they field, neither of these two have played remotely close to an all-conference level. to fix it? absolutely it will. and Brian Kelly will be given that time. and like I stated in my earlier post, if House had us somewhere in the middle of the pack nationally right now and it appeared we were just missing some pieces to get this thing right, he would get extra time too. but in today's world of big time college athletics, a DC fielding a defense that is ranked in the 120's in year 2 will almost never get a year 3.
