An off the topic moot point for discussion only but the "Tampa 2" was Kiffin's defense in name only. It was originated by the old Pittsburgh Steelers back when they were winning all the Super Bowls. It's a cover 2 with the middle linebacker dropping back in coverage. More of a pro style defense and works if you've got a middle linebacker that can do it. The Steelers had Jack Lambert. I've actually seen LSU do it, but not this year.

Probably should be called the "Old Pittsburgh Steeler defense renamed the Tampa 2 by Monte Kiffin" defense.

This is true......as for a what Chief runs. The Zone Blitz something Dick LeBeau started, is more along what Chief likes to use. Many of his players go into the NFL, NFL ready. You look at the awards last night, Chief gets more kids ready for the NFL at a younger age. Cooper has done well along with Brick putting these teams together, McGaughey has come in well to help out also. Les has put together a great staff.

Concerning the LB Devall, it may very well have been a numbers game and the fact that we feel really good about Lorenzo Phillips:

    Already committed
    **** OLB/DE Torshiro Davis 6'3" 225 lbs (#2 LA Rivals prospect, #8 Dandy Don)
**** OLB Ronnie Feist 6'1" 215 lbs (#8 LA Rivals prospect, #14 Dandy Don)
    **** MLB/RB Lamar Louis 6'0" 220 lbs (#11 LA Rivals prospect, #11 Dandy Don)
*** OLB Trey Granier 6'1" 225 lbs (#17 LA Rivals prospect, #3 Dandy Don)
*** OLB Deion Jones 6'2" 210 lbs (#17 Dandy Don)

    Good chance for commitment
**** OLB Lorenzo Phillips 6'2" 210 lbs (#4 LA Rivals prospect, #4 Dandy Don)

That's 6 potential LBs in this class. There is no way we were going to get 7, as we get close to the final spots (4 or 5 more spots left in this class, at the most).

Plus Devall may fit in better at the MLB spot in that 3-4 at Bama with his size (6'2" 240 lbs).

Now that Devall is going elsewhere. I do feel that if anyone moves to DE it would be Davis. I could see Granier as a MLB.
