i understand how it works. we tell people not to do something, and they do it anyways. the end. my question is why we bother telling them what to do. it only makes them more pleased when they demonstrate they dont have to obey us.

Go over to iran and start a Baptist church and see how long you live. We don't fight that way...BUT we shouldn't be worried about collateral damage either. I've stated this a hundred times...It is up to a country's population to police it's own. If they refuse to, then we may have to do it for them. If they die in the process...too bad. They had their chance. Because it's a waste of time and it fogs the issues. Nukes are here to stay. We're not getting rid of ours because no one else is getting rid of theirs. As long as they're only in the hands of somewhat sane and rational people...so be it. We developed the technology in order to save lifes... American lifes. It did, and has served it purpose. Technology cannot be contained forever. Others developed, and used it. That can't be changed....so be it. We can, HOWEVER, ensure that no one else, especially homicidal maniacs like the NK's, get their hands on the weapons.

i agree almost entirely with salty, except i dont think we really can keep this in check. i dont think we can destroy any country that develops nukes. it is inevitable that more and more peeps will have better tech and eventually put a bomb together. unless we run the whole earth under the american flag, there is nothing we can do. do you think we should just destroy everyone who has the brains and means to build some nukes? pretty soon that will be everybody. i am not for us ruling the entire world just yet.
