You don't need to sample crack cocaine to know it isnt good for you. That's what I think of interviewing the coaches listed above and after NYE I'll add Petersen in there too. I think the jump to hire Coach O was for 2 reasons. The first, it was a business decision. The 2nd to make it not look like a business decision and to show faith in him. To try and salvage some morale and maybe a few recruits. Once we missed on Herman it was a crap shoot. So we took the least expensive crap shoot. Coach O did enough this season (regardless of what he did at Ole Miss) to prove him self just as worthy as the best available candidate after Herman. Are we looking for lightning in a bottle? Sure. But so are 125 other colleges. And.....I still hate Joe Alleva
Teams that are looking for lesser risk are content with being in the Weedwacker Bowl every year. Elite programs see a guy they want and try everything possible to get him. Yeah. You might miss on that big name, but if you shoot for mediocrity, that's what you get.
You could've just left it at "business decision." We took the cheap route, plain and simple. We've done that before...throughout the 90's, as a matter of fact. I guess the only difference is we were Florida's bitch every single year back then, as opposed to Bama's bitch now.
Weren't you a student back then? If not still tell us a story about your college days, please please please.
Again your trying to predict the future. Did O not significantly improve our team in just a couple of weeks with minor changes? I say give the guy a chance, if he fails I will be right there with you bitching. But give him a chance. I know people want the attractive hire but I think this was the right hire with what options we had. That being said I am not a huge fan either of how this whole thing was done. If alleva already had it in his mind that miles was on a short rope then he should have had and damn good list of candidates started LAST YEAR when he should have let miles go.
Who says hiring O is shooting for mediocrity and what big name? For all the crying, no one can come up with a better name.
Like @StaceyO said a while back, at the end of the day, we fired our HC to hire our DC. No matter which side you stand on, it is a bit unorthodox, wouldn't you say?
Any of the names Stacey posted would have showed LSU was trying to improve their head coaching slot. Hiring O was the least amount of work they could have done. Coach O's record as a head coach is the very definition of mediocre.
