Illegal citizens should be treated as human beings of course, but they do not pay taxes or do anything else to add to the system, why should they reap the benefits of it? Those here legally should be given some rights, but probably not the total rights that US citizens enjoy. For instance, I think as a precaution for America their privacy may be invaded into more so than an average citizen & other similar things.
Legal residents pay full US taxes and most progress towards full citizenship. They don't always enjoy the total privileges of a citizen, but they are entitled to the rights afforded to all taxpayers. Permanent residents are the people doing it by the rules and they are largely an asset to the country. They have to prove this to earn the green card. You can't get one if you are unemployed or if your occupation is unneeded in the US. You have to pass security screening and check in with the government occasionally. We should not confuse these people with the millions of aliens here on expired tourist visa's, expired student visa's, jumping probation while awaiting asylum hearings, and ordinary wetbacks looking for a buck.
You make a good point about the distinction between rights & priviledges, but courts have long held a right to privacy - I don't think legal residents should receive this total right. You appear to agree based on your comments about the rules of their staying here.
Certain rights are granted by the Creator and they should not be denied to anyone. Others are granted by our government and those should be reserved to citizens. Someone alot smarter than me has to decide which right is which.
At some point in our history, someone thought this to be a good idea. It is not now. Spend some time on the border, Brownsville to El Paso, if you need any convincing. Mexican mothers coming across the border to drop "American" kids places a tremendous tax burden on local Texas governments, and of course the state and federal governments. One should not become an American simply by exiting the womb on this side of the river. Anyone here legally should be afforded all protections of our government. Anyone here illegally should be shown the door. Prisoner exchange with Mexico is a wonderful idea.
I totally agree that the child should take on the nationality of the mother. My question is, why has it taken so long to correct the situation?
If we stopped them from illegally crossing over here in the first place, it wouldn't be a problem. But Texas & Bush prefer to get the Mexican vote by overlooking it.
