Hey Fly, I NEVER said that the SOONERS didn't respect LSU. I said that the Talking heads in the media and the fans that call in don't. There is a big difference in them and the Sooner football team. I've lived here for 26 yrs., from Barry to Bob and I know the media and I know the fans. Fair weather all the way. When Ou is winning, everybody is a fan and OU is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Losing, they disappear into the woodwork and the flags and bumper stickers and shirts and hats pull a magician act. I have stated that Bob Stoops and his team are a class act and I stand by that. I don't think for one minute that he will allow his team to overlook LSU. Unlike the fans and media, he knows we aren't going to be intimidated and the game will be won or lost on the field. Anybody know where any Sooner forums are? By the way, Sooner fans are for the most part genuinely good people and I like them. Outside of La. people they are the most generous and kind-hearted people around. They are just poor sports.
LOL, smart and knowledgeable OU fans ... we've got one gomer in here walking round telling everyone OU has the #1 Defense in America. These gomers need to go fix the flats on their homes.
To MiketheTiger- Response I don't get the station you are referring to since I live and work in the Houston area, Katy to be exact, so I've never heard of these guys. I appreciate the clarification about those yokels however, and I can only attribute it to "promotional pot stirring" that seems to be working since the thread to your first post is getting some legs. All in fun I might add, as it helps pass the time until game day. By the way, an ex LSU all american quarterback by the name of Mike Hillman is a friend of mine and I asked his learned opinion on the game the other day. He cautiously predicts an LSU victory due to overall team speed, and the defense. Can't say that I am in any position a to disagree on his assessment. I only hope his prediction is incorrect. BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!!!
Geeeeeee whizzzzzzzz ... why did KSU run on OKLA? could it be because ... KSU was the ONLY TOP 10 OL faced by OU this year. That Ell Roberson & Co surely did clean your plows. The LSU OL is a TOP 5 LINE & BETTER THAN KSU's ... The LSU running game is red hot with great depth, power and speed at Tailback ... our frosh RB ran for over 200 yards on the GA Dee ... they are ranked #2 in Rushing Dee behind LSU ... #1 Rushing Dee ... and WAY AHEAD of u-know-who. ... you won't stop the LSU run ... or keep it below 250 yards As for our cover corners ... they bring it ... White won't have the time to sit back and go to secondary receivers ... another long day for Stoops and Co.
Uh, Ramah. You've made your point. And they are good ones. But, some might say "He doth protest too much".
Fly, if you live in the Houston area then you are in Tiger Country and should know about the LSU Spirit. Houston is BR West for Tigers. We get a lot of our players from the Golden Triangle there. I know some of our people get a little carried away (I'm one of 'em) but I know that none of them would ever be malicious in the way some of the things are said about us. We love our Tigers and will take back seat to no one in spirit or tradition. By the way, Tiger fans, Ou has this lame-assed fight song called Boomer Sooner that they play for EVERYTHING (1st downs, scores, complete passes, tackles, 2 yd. runs, when Bob Stoops blows his nose, etc.) like Fla.St. does that dumb assed war chant. They play that because they don't know how to YELL for their team. Let's make sure every time they play that, and hopefully it won't be very often, we drown them out with PROPER SPIRIT. Let's show them how to support their team in the RIGHT WAY!!! I went to a game here once and thought I was at a funeral. Sooner fans, PAY ATTENTION AND LEARN ABOUT SPIRIT. Oh, yea better leave them ponies at home. Mike might not be a very gracious host, especially if he's hungry.
Mike, I'm not sure how much exposure you have to Sooner fans outside of the lunatics on sports radio, but most of the fans I hang with are both good people and good sports. Sure, we gripe when we lose, but I'm seeing Stoops' example of manning up and accepting defeat graciously spreading to the fans. There will always be exceptions, and unfortunately they are often among the most vocal. As for Sooner forums, my home board is here at Tulsa SportsWeb, and we'd welcome some discussion from the kind of die-hard, knowledgeable Tiger fans that seem to post here. All except for that ramah dude, he seems to be off his meds.
The talking heads of Oklahoma radio sports shows and the rabid fans that call in to those shows are in a group to themselves - and none of them take losing very graciously. Visit my home board (the Sooner Board) at oklahoma.firstdownsports.com and you will see the utmost respect for LSU. Also, visit soonertimes.com and you will be cordially welcomed (they are an earthy bunch there but they know their football). OU got kicked by Kansas State because they didnt show up to play. I do not know why and nobody else does either, but stuff happens, good teams lose occasionally (even Joe Montana and Johnny Unitas occasionally had a bad day), but Oklahoma is still Oklahoma and they will be taking LSU very, very seriously, not to mention that this one is for all the marbles. Hold that Tiger! (no, no - it's a 10 yard penalty!). Go Tigers and Boomer Sooner!
