I ran across the same story this morning and posted it over on our board. It so happens, a couple of posters were at that game last night. Apparently, the Houston coach was called down a few times before the T, and the T was called before he had his fainting spell. One poster said it was a good 10 seconds before. Here's what a witness said...
was there... kinda like getting a speeding ticket.. probably didn't deserve it at that time.. anyhow.. he had been complaining about every call (and I mean every one of them) The play was a charge that was called on his player. He jumped out of his seat to go balistic at the ref. Only after he did that, that the explosion caused him to faint. I do remember last year when our coach fell backwards on his knees at South Carolina towards the end of the game when a Technical was called and helped determine the outcome of the game. This incident last night occured at the end of the first half. While I was very concerned about his health when he was on the floor, the fact is that he did explode out of his chair with intentions to rip into the ref. Same thing Gotfried did in our game that got him T'ed up. You cannot show up the refs. Especially since he was on them from the opening tip. It wasn't like he was sitting there and all the sudden had a fainting spell. Not a UAB fan (not Alabama-Birmingham Mr. AUB), but a basketball fan that knows alot about the game. I saw it and before the bleeding hearts begin to rip me, read this entire version of what happened and make your own conclusion as to whether or not they should have taken the T back.
